Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer - Telecoms

Our client, a leading telecommunications provider, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer to join their core network operations team. This critical role is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the company's robust network infrastructure. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our telecommunications network, which spans across vast geographical regions. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in routing, switching, firewalls, and network protocols, coupled with a strategic mindset to drive network evolution and capacity planning. You will work with state-of-the-art technologies and play a key role in architecting solutions that support the company's growth and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities: Design, deploy, and manage complex IP/MPLS networks, including routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and MPLS TE. Ensure high availability and optimal performance of the core network infrastructure. Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls. Conduct network performance analysis, troubleshooting, and root cause identification for complex issues. Develop and execute network upgrade and migration plans. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new services and technologies into the network. Perform capacity planning and forecasting to ensure future network scalability. Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network engineers. Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in telecommunications networking. Participate in an on-call rotation for network emergency response. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE) are highly valued. Minimum of 8 years of experience in telecommunications network engineering, with a strong focus on core network infrastructure. In-depth knowledge of IP networking, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), MPLS, and Layer 2/3 switching. Hands-on experience with network security principles and technologies (firewalls, VPNs). Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools. Proven experience in troubleshooting complex network issues in a live environment. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. This position requires your presence at our operational hub in Upington, Northern Cape, ZA , to manage critical infrastructure directly.
