Position Overview

Title: Senior Plant Engineer
Location: Capilano Energy team
Reporting To: District Energy and Engineering Manager
Schedule: Full‑time, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm

Onni is seeking a Senior Plant Engineer to join our dynamic Capilano Energy team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily operations and managing maintenance activities across two sites. The Senior Plant Engineer will play a key role in establishing Capilano Energy as a leader in sustainable and reliable district energy services. What You Will Do

Plant Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee and operate boilers, chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment in compliance with Technical Safety BC regulations.
  • Diagnose and complete repairs for mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues.
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Team Communication & Coordination

  • Participate in weekly team meetings, providing regular operational updates to management.
  • Coordinate work with contractors, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Work with management to develop budgets, create service contracts, issue purchase orders, and manage inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Hire, lead, and mentor operations staff in the future, fostering skill development and safety awareness.

Performance Monitoring & Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date records, logs, and inspection reports.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and company operating standards.

What You Will Bring

  • 3rd Class Power Engineer certification (minimum) and a Refrigeration Operator license.
  • 5+ years of progressive plant operations experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong technical knowledge of boilers, chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers, pumps, BACnet, and related mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, familiarity with local building codes and TSBC regulations.
  • Mechanical commissioning experience would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self‑starter who can work well with minimal direct supervision.

Salary Range

$100,000 – $125,000
