Senior PLC Design Engineer

Summary: We are seeking a Senior PLC Design Engineer to join a growing systems integration team focused on mission-critical infrastructure, industrial automation, and complex mechanical systems. This role will support the design and delivery of highly reliable PLC-based control systems for large-scale facilities including data centers, central utility plants, critical HVAC infrastructure, and industrial process environments.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys owning technical designs from concept through execution while working alongside programmers, field engineers, project managers, and commissioning teams on complex, high-visibility projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design PLC-based control systems for mission-critical and industrial facilities including data centers, central plants, and HVAC/process systems
- Develop control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, PLC I/O architecture, and industrial network designs
- Coordinate with project managers, programmers, panel shops, and field teams throughout project execution
- Prepare engineering documentation including submittments, BOMs, and construction drawings
- Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and integrated systems testing (IST)
- Perform QA/QC reviews and mentor junior engineers and designers
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in PLC controls design, electrical engineering, or industrial automation
- Strong experience designing complete PLC-based control systems and engineering packages
- Experience with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley platforms including ControlLogix and CompactLogix
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical
- Strong understanding of industrial networking, control panel design, and field integration
- Experience supporting commissioning, startup, or troubleshooting activities
- Background supporting mission-critical infrastructure, data centers, central plants, HVAC systems, or industrial process environments strongly preferred
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, or similar design/documentation tools
- Experience working for a systems integrator, controls contractor, or industrial automation firm
- Understanding of redundant systems, uptime requirements, and critical facility operations
