Your Role
As a Senior Principal Architect at the Senior Director level, you will be among Teradata's top technical leaders, bridging deep technical expertise and substantial organizational influence. You will serve as a primary cross-domain architectural authority for Teradata's Core Platform, focusing on the strategic coherence of our technical architecture across the Vantage platform, AI engineering capabilities, and cloud integration.
Responsibilities
- Define and shape Teradata's enterprise-wide technical architecture vision, ensuring alignment across compute, storage, query processing, AI/ML pipelines, and cloud integration layers.
- Lead high-stakes architectural strategy for complex, high-risk platform projects, including the Artemis data lakehouse and Agentic Platform AI workloads.
- Act as Teradata's chief external technical spokesperson at industry forums, standards bodies, and strategic client engagements.
- Chair the Enterprise Architecture Review Board to establish architectural guidelines, assess major design proposals, and swiftly resolve technical conflicts.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive AI productivity framework for the Core Platform engineering organization, outlining standard tools and measurement metrics.
- Mentor a talented group of Principal and Senior Staff Architects, serving as a career mentor and technical example for Teradata's leading engineering professionals.
- Create influential technical documentation, including platform blueprints and architecture whitepapers, for Board meetings and investor communications.
- Collaborate with CPO and Chief Data Officer to align architectural investments with Teradata's five-year AI platform strategy and strategic business outcomes.
- Utilize foundational AI skills to explore innovative methods to enhance productivity and impact throughout our workforce.
Collaboration
Your reporting line will be to the VP of Engineering. You will work closely with the engineering leadership team and engage regularly with enterprise accounts at senior levels, participate in technical advisory boards, and effectively communicate Teradata’s engineering strategies to investors and analysts. Our global team upholds high standards of technical excellence and intellectual integrity.
Qualifications
- 20+ years in software or systems engineering, with 8+ years holding a principal, distinguished, or fellow-level architectural position in a software product company or hyperscaler.
- Well-established authority in at least two of the following areas: cloud-native data platforms, distributed query processing, AI/ML infrastructure, elastic compute architecture, or enterprise integration.
- A proven ability to articulate a multi-year technical vision that shapes both internal engineering trajectories and market positioning.
- Track record in deploying AI tools and automated workflows at an organizational scale, with observable productivity enhancements.
- Exceptional communication skills with experience in presenting to Boards of Directors, institutional investors, and enterprise C-suite professionals.
What You'll Bring
- Prior experience as a Chief Architect, Distinguished Engineer, or Fellow at a major cloud, data, or enterprise software organization.
- Thorough knowledge of Teradata Vantage, competitive platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery), and the evolving AI-native data environment.
- Experience with standards bodies, open-source project governance, or published thought leadership in the technical community.
- Adept at being both a hands-on technical reviewer and a strategic high-level communicator.

Compensation
Pay Range: $217,300 - $325,900 Annually Compensation will be determined based on geographic location, internal equity, relevant experience, and job knowledge. All employees are eligible for annual incentive plans based on company and individual performance.
