Job Summary
The Senior Principal Civil Engineer will lead a talented team in providing daily supervision, coordination, technical support, and training to engineers and designers. This role is crucial for project management, budget oversight, mentoring, and managing a diverse staff to deliver high-quality engineering solutions for land development projects ranging from residential to commercial in the Inland Empire.
This position offers significant opportunities for advancement within the Development Business Unit, paving the way towards a Regional Manager role. Duties
- Manage multiple civil engineering land development projects simultaneously.
- Establish and foster relationships with clients, developing proposals and budgets.
- Participate actively in professional and technical organizations.
- Utilize technical expertise to design plans for grading, drainage, water quality (including SUSMPs, LIDs, WQMPs, and/or SWPPPs), utility layouts, street designs, off-site improvements, sanitary sewers, and water lines, while providing construction support services.
- Analyze and recommend solutions for complex drainage challenges.
- Communicate effectively with clients, agencies, and various departments.
- Mentor, direct, manage, and supervise design associates on technical matters, acting as a resource for staff.
- Oversee quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
- Coordinate with jurisdictional agencies to secure approvals for improvement plans.
- Involve in business development and expand opportunities within the Inland Empire.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.
- California P.E. license is a must.
- 15+ years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on land development projects.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience leading and managing projects effectively within scope, budget, and performance requirements.
- Membership in Land Development organizations like BIA, HBA, etc., is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, including monitoring and mentoring three or more direct reports.
- Proven expertise in land development design processes.
- Experience with processing improvement plans through jurisdictional agencies in the Inland Empire.
- Strong understanding of code principles and ability to explain them effectively.
- Client management and business development experience.
- Experience in hydrologic/hydraulic analysis is an advantage.
- Familiarity with civil engineering design software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, AES, WSPG, Flowmaster, etc.).
- Proven success in business development, focusing on acquiring new and repeat business.
