Senior Process Safety Engineer

Our client, a major player in the petrochemical industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their world-class, fully remote engineering team. This is a critical role focused on ensuring the highest standards of safety in process design, operation, and maintenance within the organization's facilities. You will be instrumental in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating process-related hazards to prevent accidents and protect personnel, the environment, and assets. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of process safety principles, hazard analysis techniques, and relevant industry regulations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and management, to implement robust safety management systems and foster a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities: Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies. Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs. Perform safety integrity level (SIL) assessments and recommend safety instrumented system (SIS) designs. Review and approve process designs, modifications, and operating procedures from a safety perspective. Investigate process safety incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Develop and deliver training on process safety topics to relevant personnel. Ensure compliance with national and international process safety regulations and standards. Develop and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for process safety performance. Provide expert technical advice on process safety to project teams and operations. Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in process safety engineering. Contribute to a strong safety culture through proactive engagement and communication. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Master's degree or PhD is a plus. A minimum of 8 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the oil and gas, chemical, or petrochemical industries. Proven expertise in conducting PHAs and implementing PSM programs. In-depth knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, NFPA, API). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly. Proficiency in process simulation and safety analysis software. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a remote team environment. Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification is highly desirable. This role is 100% remote, requiring you to work from your location within Nigeria. While remote, the engineer will provide crucial safety oversight and support for facilities and projects located in the operational heartlands, including those around Port Harcourt, Rivers, NG .
