About the role
Role Overview
As a Senior Product Owner specializing in healthcare claims and authorization data, you will define, shape, and deliver complex, high-impact data and integration products. This role requires deep healthcare domain expertise, strong analytical rigor, and the ability to translate business needs into development-ready specifications.
You will:
- Analyze and translate business requirements into clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria
- Own and drive product vision and roadmap for API-, FHIR-, and X12-based integrations
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for claims and authorization datasets
- Produce high-quality documentation that enables development and QA teams to execute with minimal ambiguity
Key Responsibilities
- Define, prioritize, and manage a product backlog focused on healthcare claims and authorization workflows
- Author detailed business and functional requirements for:
- APIs and integration services
- FHIR resources (e.g., ExplanationOfBenefit, CoverageEligibility)
- X12 transactions (e.g., 837, 278, 835)
- Partner with clinical, payer, and technical stakeholders to align on data definitions, workflows, and business rules
- Translate roadmap initiatives into well-scoped user stories with clear acceptance criteria for development and QA
- Conduct market and standards analysis, staying current with regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., CMS, HIPAA)
- Lead agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design scalable, reliable interfaces and ensure end-to-end data integrity
- Mentor and support junior product owners and analysts, promoting best practices in product delivery and stakeholder management
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of product ownership or product management experience, with 3+ years in a senior or lead capacity
- Deep expertise in healthcare claims and authorization data, including data structures, lifecycles, payer rules, and denial drivers
- Demonstrated experience developing business and functional requirements for:
- APIs (REST, OAuth, OpenAPI)
- FHIR (R4 or later)
- X12 transaction sets (837, 835, 278)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to research, synthesize, and clearly communicate standards and data sources
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; documentation is consistently development-ready
- Proven experience working with development and QA teams in Agile environments, including writing UAT criteria
- Mandatory healthcare domain experience; exposure to data warehousing and ETL concepts is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications preferred

- Experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Swagger/OpenAPI, and API testing frameworks
- Track record of delivering products aligned to defined success metrics
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills across Product, Engineering, QA, and Customer Success
