Senior Production Designer - Film

Our client, a renowned independent film production house based in **George, Western Cape**, is seeking a highly creative and experienced Senior Production Designer to oversee the visual aesthetic of upcoming film projects. This role is integral to bringing directorial visions to life, crafting immersive worlds, and defining the unique visual language of our films. As the Senior Production Designer, you will lead a team of art department professionals, including set decorators, prop masters, and construction crews, to translate script requirements into tangible, compelling environments. Your responsibilities will encompass conceptualizing and developing the overall design concept, including set design, color palettes, textures, and architectural styles, in close collaboration with the Director and Cinematographer. You will be responsible for creating detailed drawings, storyboards, mood boards, and digital renderings to present design ideas. Budget management and adherence will be critical, requiring you to source materials, manage vendor relationships, and oversee the construction and dressing of sets. Experience with historical periods, fantasy worlds, or specific genre aesthetics relevant to our upcoming projects is highly desirable. The ideal candidate possesses a strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of successful film or television productions, demonstrating exceptional artistic talent, technical proficiency, and leadership capabilities. A degree in Fine Arts, Architecture, Set Design, or a related field is preferred, along with a minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in production design. You must possess a deep understanding of construction methods, materials, art history, and visual storytelling principles. Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are essential for collaborating effectively with the director, producers, and other department heads. This is a demanding, on-site role requiring a significant time commitment and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic production environment.
