Overview

A leading international energy company is seeking a Senior Project Developer to join its Business Development team, supporting growth across the Sub-Saharan African region.

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa (hybrid) Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Regional Head of Business Development, you will:

  • Develop a strong understanding of legislation related to conventional energy investments (with a focus on gas-fired generation) and monitor regulatory developments
  • Analyse the competitive landscape to support strategic decision-making
  • Assess financing solutions for energy projects and their impact on business models
  • Support partner identification and acquisition strategies aligned with business needs
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities including:
    • Greenfield developments
    • Acquisitions
    • Competitive tenders (public and private)
    • Bilateral commercial agreements with large off-takers
  • Assist in preparing documentation and presentations for investment approvals (internal and external)
  • Support project development activities, including permitting and stakeholder engagement
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners throughout the project lifecycle
  • Handover projects for construction while maintaining ongoing support where required
  • Contribute to maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and regulatory bodies

Requirements

  • 5–8 years’ experience in business development, investment analysis, or similar commercial roles
  • Degree in Engineering, Economics, Law, or a related field
  • International experience is advantageous
