About the role
Overview
A leading international energy company is seeking a Senior Project Developer to join its Business Development team, supporting growth across the Sub-Saharan African region.
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa (hybrid) Employment Type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Regional Head of Business Development, you will:
- Develop a strong understanding of legislation related to conventional energy investments (with a focus on gas-fired generation) and monitor regulatory developments
- Analyse the competitive landscape to support strategic decision-making
- Assess financing solutions for energy projects and their impact on business models
- Support partner identification and acquisition strategies aligned with business needs
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities including:
- Greenfield developments
- Acquisitions
- Competitive tenders (public and private)
- Bilateral commercial agreements with large off-takers
- Assist in preparing documentation and presentations for investment approvals (internal and external)
- Support project development activities, including permitting and stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners throughout the project lifecycle
- Handover projects for construction while maintaining ongoing support where required
- Contribute to maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and regulatory bodies
Requirements
- 5–8 years’ experience in business development, investment analysis, or similar commercial roles
- Degree in Engineering, Economics, Law, or a related field
- International experience is advantageous
