Role Summary

The Senior Project Manager, Dangerous Goods (DG) Regulatory Engagement is a DG, Storage, and Fire and Chemical Safety subject matter expert (SME) responsible for planning, coordinating and engaging with regulatory bodies and industry to reform and advance regulations. This role leverages partnerships WW (world‑wide) to improve, enhance, and innovate DG transport and storage through the use of technology and data, using safety as the key driver to reduce the risk.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Work with the WW DG Regulatory Engagement Senior Manager, other DG and Storage SME’s, and Leadership to assist in the development and update of an annual engagement strategy, including implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Regulatory oversight of existing and new Amazon operations, including opportunities to collaborate with regulators to improve network and facility safety, growth, and expansion; plan, maintain, and engage as an active member of key global industry trade associations and non‑Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as other industry standard‑setting organizations
  • Be active in understanding and involved with the key personnel, including the interworking’s of international DG regulatory bodies of: UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe), US DOT / PHMSA (US Department of Transportation / Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration), FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), ADR (Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), IACO (International Civil Aviation Organization) & IMO (International Maritime Organization), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency), ISO (International Standards Organization)
  • Work with Amazon Public Policy, coordinating to ensure Amazon message of safety in storage and transportation, yearly priorities, and partnership on risk‑based approaches to DG regulation reform is presented to appropriate levels of government and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain and strengthen our global carrier relationships by working in partnership with Amazon’s global transportation organization enabling collaboration in the decision‑making process for safe transport and storage of DG in all geographies where Amazon operates
  • Ingesting process improvements and assisting in implementing mechanisms at scale to reduce risk
  • Collaboration to find resolution(s) using automation/tech to enable compliance throughout the network

A Day in the Life

This role works cross‑functional within an international environment to transform internal Amazon processes through the use of continuous improvement and lessons learned to advance DG Operations (DG Ops), classification, training, selling partner education and outreach, and partnership with each of our carriers. Working in close coordination with the DG Ops and Amazon Classification teams, this role will assist in gaining additional operational efficiencies, including supporting business expansion/growth, through regulatory and strategic engagement with each of the regulatory bodies who oversee Amazon Fulfillment Network (AFN) and other businesses under the Amazon corporate umbrella (such as: Kuiper (Satellites), MGM / Prime Video (Movie / TV Production), PillPack (Pharmacy), Zoox (Self‑Driving Taxis), One Medical (Urgent / Elder Care Services), etc.).

The Dangerous Goods team ensures the safety of our Customers, associates and carrier partners by delivering innovative solutions to ensure dangerous goods compliance, redefining industry best practices and standards, and safely enabling an ever‑changing borderless business model.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
  • Experience in Product Safety & Compliance Law

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
  • Master's degree or equivalent
  • Experience with Dangerous Goods regulatory development processes for national and international regulatory bodies

Compensation (Base Salary Range)

  • USA, AZ, Tempe – $121,200.00 – $163,900.00 USD annually
  • USA, IL, Chicago – $121,200.00 – $163,900.00 USD annually
  • USA, TN, Nashville – $109,000.00 – $155,400.00 USD annually
  • USA, TX, Austin – $121,200.00 – $163,900.00 USD annually
  • USA, TX, Houston – $121,200.00 – $163,900.00 USD annually
  • USA, VA, Arlington – $121,200.00 – $163,900.00 USD annually
  • USA, WA, Bellevue – $121,200.00 – $163,900.00 USD annually

Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
