About the role
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage multiple fire sprinkler installation projects across commercial, industrial, retail, warehousing, and high-risk facilities.
- Oversee all phases of projects including planning, procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Monitor project progress and ensure milestones and deadlines are achieved.
- Ensure projects are delivered according to approved specifications, drawings, and client requirements.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Attend project meetings, technical meetings, and site progress reviews.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
- Manage project variations, claims, and contractual matters effectively.
Team Leadership
- Lead and supervise project managers, site supervisors, technicians, subcontractors, and installation teams.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project staff.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination between all departments.
- Monitor team performance and ensure productivity targets are achieved.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Prepare and manage project budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor project costs, profitability, and cash flow.
- Review and approve procurement, subcontractor appointments, and supplier agreements.
- Ensure accurate progress claims, invoicing, and project reporting.
- Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Technical & Compliance Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with SANS standards, fire protection regulations, OHSA requirements, and client specifications.
- Review technical drawings, hydraulic calculations, and project designs where required.
- Ensure quality standards and installation best practices are maintained throughout all projects.
- Oversee inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover processes.
Operational Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site inspections and project audits.
- Resolve technical, operational, and commercial challenges efficiently.
- Support tendering and business development activities when required.
- Drive continuous improvement within project execution processes and operational procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or similar.
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience within the fire sprinkler or fire protection industry.
- Proven experience managing large-scale fire sprinkler installation projects.
- Strong understanding of sprinkler systems, pumps, tanks, hydrants, hose reels, and fire suppression systems.
- Strong knowledge of SANS regulations and fire protection standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Requirements
- SAQCC registration advantageous.
- Experience managing high-value commercial and industrial projects.
- Knowledge of Revit/BIM coordination advantageous.
- Experience with contract management and NEC/JBCC contracts advantageous.
