Our client is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Senior Project Manager to oversee large-scale mining development and operational projects. This critical role requires a proven leader with a strong background in the mining industry, exceptional project management skills, and a deep understanding of project lifecycle management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. The successful candidate will manage cross-functional teams, liaise with key stakeholders including government bodies and community representatives, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. A strong emphasis will be placed on strategic planning, resource allocation, and the implementation of best practices in project execution. This position demands robust leadership qualities, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to thrive in a challenging, site-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all phases of mining projects from initiation to closure.
• Develop detailed project plans, scope, budgets, and schedules.
• Oversee project teams, including engineers, geologists, contractors, and support staff.
• Identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Manage stakeholder relationships, including investors, government agencies, and local communities.
• Procure and manage resources, equipment, and services.
• Monitor project progress, performance, and expenditures, reporting to senior management.
• Implement change management processes effectively.
• Drive continuous improvement in project delivery methodologies and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Project Manager in the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• A Master's degree or MBA is advantageous.
• PMP or PRINCE2 certification is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated success in managing complex, multi-million rand projects.
• Strong knowledge of mining operations, processes, and regulations.
• Expertise in project management software and tools.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and motivational skills.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency in risk management and financial control.
• Ability to work effectively on-site and manage field operations.
• Resilience and ability to handle complex challenges in a demanding environment.

This is a permanent, site-based position located in Welkom, Free State, ZA.
