Our client, a leading retail group, is seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Senior Project Manager to oversee the development and execution of new retail projects and store renovations across the Eastern Cape. This pivotal role requires a leader with a strong background in retail construction, project management, and stakeholder engagement. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to construction, fit-out, and grand opening, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and closing of multiple retail development projects concurrently.
• Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope definition, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
• Manage project budgets, control costs, and ensure adherence to financial objectives.
• Oversee the selection and management of architects, contractors, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with all building codes, safety regulations, and permitting requirements.
• Liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, including operations, marketing, and finance teams, as well as external parties such as landlords and regulatory bodies.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Conduct regular site visits to oversee construction progress and ensure quality standards are met.
• Manage the procurement and installation of fixtures, fittings, and equipment for new stores.
• Facilitate project meetings, provide regular status updates, and prepare comprehensive project reports.
• Ensure smooth handover of completed projects to the operations team.
• Mentor junior project managers and contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
• A PMP certification is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in project management, with a significant focus on retail development, construction, or fit-out projects.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
• In-depth understanding of construction processes, building regulations, and project management methodologies.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and vendor management skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Asana) and MS Office Suite.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings and technical specifications.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management.
• Resilience and ability to thrive in a fast-paced project environment.
