Senior Python Engineer (m/f/d) Quant Platforms

Computer Futures

Hybrid Senior €80k – €80k/yr 1w ago

About the role

About

My client is an owner‑managed, highly specialized hedge fund based in Vienna, combining quantitative research approaches, modern technology, and deep market understanding. The team works on data‑driven relative‑value and macro strategies and relies on a modern, cloud‑based infrastructure and robust engineering standards.

To support the team, I am looking for a Senior Python Engineer (m/f/d) Quant Platforms, someone who enjoys working closely with quants and portfolio teams, turning prototypes into production‑ready systems, and actively shaping the technical platform – from AWS cloud architecture to internal web applications.

If you enjoy having real impact in a small, smart team and solving complex technical challenges, this could be exactly the right role for you.

Responsibilities

  • Further develop the technical platform that supports quantitative research and analytics, ensuring stability, performance, and long‑term scalability.
  • Work closely with quants and researchers to transform prototypes, scripts, and notebooks into robust, well‑structured production systems.
  • Maintain and improve internal web applications and services – from backend APIs to visual components – ensuring performance, usability, and seamless integration.
  • Build and expand modern observability structures (logging, metrics, alerts, tracing) to improve transparency and debugging workflows.
  • Contribute to and enhance the AWS‑based cloud infrastructure, including container workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure‑as‑code, helping keep systems efficient and scalable.
  • Participate actively in architectural decisions and help structure services and data flows in clear, maintainable ways.

Qualifications

  • Strong Python skills and enthusiasm for working with large datasets (S3, Parquet, PyArrow, Polars, efficient data processing).
  • Backend experience with Python frameworks, ideally Django.
  • Experience with AWS (or similar), container workflows, CI/CD, CloudFront, Docker, and infrastructure design – the entire platform runs in the cloud.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, plus interest in working with time‑series data.
  • Frontend interest or willingness to learn: the team uses React as well as Vega/Altair for visualizations.
  • Experience with debugging and monitoring (performance analytics, logs, tracing, evaluating new tools).
  • Solid architectural understanding: modularizing APIs, improving data flows, and structuring applications logically.
  • A collaborative mindset and strong initiative – you enjoy contributing ideas, driving projects forward, motivating others, and building things together.
  • Technical education (University/FH or equivalent).
  • Languages: English is the company language; German is a plus.
  • Bonus skills: C++ experience, interest in quantitative/financial topics.

Benefits

  • Public transport job ticket for easy and sustainable commuting.
  • €8 per day lunch subsidy via vouchers.
  • Very generous Christmas gifts every year.
  • Regular team lunches – the company is known for being generous here.
  • Flexible working hours and the option to work partly from home.
  • All technical subscriptions and tools (software, licenses, specialist tools) are fully covered – nothing falls back on the employee.
  • A pleasant, supportive work environment where people collaborate instead of competing.
  • Compensation: an annual gross salary of around €80,000 for this Senior Python Engineer (m/f/d) Quant Platforms role in Vienna, with the possibility of overpayment depending on qualifications and experience.
