About the role

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong reliability expertise to lead reliability efforts across the full product lifecycle—from early design through qualification and manufacturing release.

In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert in reliability engineering, ensuring that products meet stringent performance, durability, and lifecycle requirements. You will play a critical role in technical risk assessment, qualification testing, supplier oversight, and failure analysis, while acting as a key approver for design readiness and release to manufacturing.

This position supports high-value, mission-critical systems, requiring a deep understanding of failure mechanisms, system-level reliability, and long-term performance modeling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide reliability leadership within cross-functional core teams, ensuring designs meet reliability and performance targets
  • Conduct early-stage technical risk assessments and support design decision-making
  • Review and approve Qualification Test Plans (QTPs) and Qualification Test Reports (QTRs)
  • Evaluate manufacturing readiness and ensure alignment with design intent and reliability requirements
  • Serve as the final approver for qualification and release of new designs to production
  • Lead failure mode analysis (FMEA/physics of failure) and reliability modeling activities
  • Oversee and support supplier reliability, including qualification of components, subsystems, and processes
  • Manage and disposition supplier and manufacturing non-conformances
  • Analyze and track reliability metrics (e.g., FIT rates, failure rates, downtime) and drive continuous improvement
  • Support RFQs and new business efforts by providing reliability inputs and risk assessments
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, cost, and lead time without compromising reliability

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in reliability engineering or related discipline
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles and methodologies
  • Experience with physics of failure across mechanical and electro-mechanical systems
  • Ability to perform:
    • FIT rate analysis
    • Technical risk assessments
    • Failure mode and root cause analysis
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and standard quality tools
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface across engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers
  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional, global team environments

Preferred Experience

  • Background in high-reliability industries (aerospace, defense, subsea, medical devices, etc.)
  • Experience with complex systems lifecycle from design through field deployment
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Failure rates and reliability modeling
    • Downtime analysis and system performance metrics
    • Large-scale system reliability (multi-million-dollar systems)
  • Experience acting as a technical authority or signatory for design approvals
  • Broad knowledge of materials, mechanical systems, and failure mechanisms

Additional Details

  • This role fills a critical mechanical reliability expertise gap within a team of 5 engineers
  • You will work alongside an existing Electrical Engineering SME, providing complementary mechanical leadership
  • High-impact role with responsibility for systems valued in the millions of dollars
  • Fast-paced environment with regular design reviews, supplier interaction, and cross-functional collaboration

General Notes

  • Candidates should be comfortable working in a high-responsibility, high-visibility role
  • Strong emphasis on teamwork, communication, and practical problem-solving
  • Candidates will be asked to formally apply after initial submission
