Summary
The Senior Reliability Engineer will join the AES Southland Engineering team to provide engineering expertise supporting daily operations and maintenance at AES Southland combined cycle generation sites and assist with design and construction of replacement generation for the AES Southland fleet.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical and business support to Safety, Environmental, Development, Commercial, and O&M teams and future development projects.
- Perform asset management strategy implementation, power plant process and design improvements, capital spending justification, troubleshooting, failure analysis, budget planning, and corrective action recommendations.
- Collaborate with maintenance and planning/scheduling groups to maintain accurate CMMS records.
- Assist with development and implementation of annual engineering plan and budget including work management, maintenance planning, outage and project execution, and compliance with standards.
- Prepare data-driven capital project prioritization and budget justifications.
- Make recommendations with incomplete data sets.
- Develop and maintain equipment reliability Key Performance Indicators.
- Ensure maintenance and reliability metrics are in place site-wide.
- Maintain and analyze equipment history for trends.
- Provide technical accounts of equipment failures and manage continuous improvement for chronic issues.
- Apply Root Cause Analysis, Equipment Criticality Ranking, PM/PdM optimization, Defect Elimination, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
- Utilize predictive technologies such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasound, and motor current analysis.
- Investigate new reliability improvement technologies.
- Prepare design specifications, perform calculations, review technical specs, and conduct inspections.
- Facilitate operational event and failure investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Prepare and optimize equipment preventative maintenance tasks.
- Rank asset criticality and define cost-beneficial proactive maintenance.
- Create risk mitigation strategies for critical assets.
- Develop and maintain digital operator rounds program.
- Coordinate AES engineering resources, technicians, and third parties for asset management and reliability improvements.
- Manage contractors including work authorizations, approvals, invoicing, and scheduling.
- Conduct activities in accordance with AES safety, health, environment, code of conduct, financial, and internal policies.
Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electromechanical Engineering preferred.
- 5-7 years experience in related heavy industrial, process, or construction engineering roles.
- Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) and/or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) preferred.
- 5+ years implementing RCM, CbM/PdM methods.
- Self-motivated, independent, dependable, and safety-focused.
- Ability to read and apply technical manuals and design documents.
- Experience delivering training, coaching, and mentoring.
- Collaborative team player.
- Project management experience managing multiple projects.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt priorities.
- Experience developing and managing project plans and budgets.
- Knowledge or ability to quickly learn utility scale power generation systems including Instrumentation and Controls, Electrical systems, Mechanical systems, Water chemistry control, and Emissions control.
- Practical experience with maintenance strategy development and optimization.
- Experience with Quality and Asset Management Systems including ISO 9001 and ISO 55001.
- Experience with multi-discipline projects and system integration.
- Experience in business analysis, asset management, and risk analysis.
- Thorough understanding of heavy industrial plant procedures and compliance.
- Knowledge of California regulations for new or construction projects.
- Strong English communication skills.
- Experience with CMMS/EAM systems.
- Proficiency with MS Office, SAP, AutoCAD, Solidworks, or similar software.

The expected salary range at commencement is $115,000 to $143,650 per year, with base pay varying by factors including location, knowledge, skills, and experience. Total compensation includes annual bonus. Employment is at-will with potential salary modifications based on performance and market factors.
