Career Opportunity
We are currently seeking candidates for a Senior Security Systems Engineer/Specialist position in our Wallops Island, Virginia office. The Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island, VA requires management, engineering, operation, and technical expertise for the activation, operations, maintenance and engineering of equipment, systems and computer programs in support of all NAVSEA and PEO IWS missions. The SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Security Systems Engineer/Specialist will have adequate experience and training to effectively perform the duties listed below:
- Provide subject matter expertise for DoD information systems security policy.
- Plan, install, configure, and administer technology such as HBSS, ACAS, SEIM, firewall, patch management, and configuration management solutions to support security policy.
- Implement and audit security controls in accordance with RMF Assessment and Authorization requirements.
- Manage a team of Cybersecurity professionals and interface with the government customer to prioritize actions and ensure timely task completion.
- Provide for regular communications in the form of weekly SITREPs, reports on a monthly/quarterly basis, as well as ongoing situational awareness notification as needed.
- Conduct periodic DoD Security Technical Information Guide (STIG) compliance audits.
- Monitor network vulnerability/risk and implement remedies/mitigations.
- Review proposed designs to ensure appropriate security is included.
- Use available tools and scripts to reduce the effort to enforce security policy and audit compliance.
Travel
- This position includes a low level of travel.
Education, Knowledge or Certifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree within the last five years in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering or similar degree as listed in the DoD 8140 listings from an ABET accredited or NCAE designated institution.

- GIAC Defensible Security Architecture (GDSA)
- GIAC Continuous Monitoring Certification (GMON)
- GIAC Certified Enterprise Defender (GCED)
- GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)

Qualifications
- Active DoD Secret security clearance highly desired, however candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations on base.
- Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor and/or manager when not in the office.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently traverse stairs.
- Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
- Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
- Lifting boxes (files and supplies) up to 20 lbs.
