About This Role
Marriott is looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Data and Analytics Technology to help develop our next-generation cloud platform for data, analytics, AI, and machine learning. You'll function as a technical expert and lead engineer for the Data Platform team, performing research, analysis, design and development on a wide range of next-generation data capabilities and products. You'll set technical standards and develop reusable frameworks to ensure consistent and efficient creation of data capabilities and products across the organization.
One of your key responsibilities will be assuming technical ownership of Service Provider deliverables and leading their technical resources to ensure deliverables are of high quality, follow established technical standards and best practices, and perform at scale. Additionally, you'll research emerging AI technologies that will provide future capabilities and seek solutions for complex technical issues. You'll make decisions on complex, non-routine requests to support analytics-based decision-making by Marriott business teams.
What You'll Be Doing
Technical Leadership
- You'll train and mentor other team members and peers as appropriate.
- Your ability to liaise with multiple teams will be critical—you'll steer projects from inception to successful delivery.
- You'll provide financial input on department or project budgets, capital expenditures, and other cost or resource estimates as requested.
- You'll identify opportunities to enhance service delivery processes and help drive continuous improvement across the team.
Delivering Technology
- You'll perform complex quantitative and qualitative analyses for service delivery processes and projects.
- You'll facilitate achievement of expected deliverables and obligations from Services Providers, validating completeness of requirements prior to Service Provider solutioning.
- Ensuring all projects adhere to established development protocols and business case procedures will be essential, as will proper coordination with appropriate IT and vendor relations teams.
- You'll provide consultation for routine and complex systems development, ensure early warning to business stakeholder executives regarding degraded or missed service levels, and coordinate with Application Delivery and Infrastructure teams for deployment and production support activities.
IT Governance and Service Provider Management
- You'll follow all defined IT standards and processes, providing input for improvements to appropriate process owners.
- Maintaining a proper balance between business and operational risk is important, as is the ability to assess when risks need escalation to the right channels.
- You'll follow defined project management standards and processes.
- You'll validate that Service Providers develop and manage respective aspects of project plans, including schedules, deliverables, and appropriate metrics.
- You'll make short-term plans for the team to effectively utilize resources, monitor Service Provider outcomes, and review estimates of work effort provided by Service Providers for accuracy.
- Facilitating timely resolution of service delivery problems while minimizing impact to clients will be part of your daily work.
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
- You'll need 8+ years of hands-on experience developing large-scale data ETL pipelines and applications at enterprise scale.
- You must have over four years of experience in technical delivery ownership for large-scale data pipelines and applications on AWS and Snowflake.
- You'll also need 4+ years of experience developing data applications on AWS and 4+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake technologies.
- Additionally, you should have 2+ years of experience with AWS S3, Lambda, and EKS.
- You'll need to be a strong technical leader with a proven ability to lead Service Provider technical resources, and strong communication skills are essential.
- You must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related Engineering field.
Preferred Qualifications
- A graduate degree in Computer Science or Engineering would be advantageous.
- Technology certifications in Spark or Snowflake, or AWS Solutions Architect or Developer certification would strengthen your candidacy.
- Experience with Airflow, Python, and API calls is valuable.
- We'd also appreciate experience with data governance tools such as Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, Hashicorp Tokenization Products, agile software methodologies, and demonstrated ability to anticipate future data platform opportunities.
- Technology leadership experience in a sourced environment is a plus.
Location and Work Environment
This position is based at Marriott headquarters in Bethesda, MD at 7750 Wisconsin Ave. Marriott HQ is committed to a hybrid work environment. Headquarters-based positions are considered hybrid for candidates within commuting distance to Bethesda, MD; candidates outside of commuting distance to Bethesda, MD will be considered for remote positions.
