The Senior Full Stack Engineer - Platform & Architecture offers a dynamic role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities across the entire software stack for the Medicaid Market. This position emphasizes comprehensive ownership—from creating engaging user experiences to architecting dependable back-end services—all while promoting best practices and mentoring fellow engineers to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

This role uniquely combines hands-on development with technical leadership. It entails making informed architectural decisions, modernizing legacy systems, and addressing technical debt. You will help establish uniform patterns across user interfaces, APIs, data, and integration layers for separate health plan technology stacks. By fostering modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated testing, and observability, you will accelerate project delivery and enhance quality using Humana-approved AI and code generation tools.

As the Senior Full Stack Engineer - Platform & Architecture, you will be directly responsible for the architecture, design, development, and modernization of applications that support our Medicaid Market. Working with substantial autonomy, you will oversee solutions end-to-end instead of limiting yourself to a single application or technology area.

The IT team functions as a fully empowered technology organization supporting two health plans with different core systems. This means you will engage with a variety of platforms and collaborate with peers, enterprise architecture, and platform partners to align technical directions and streamline complexity across systems.

In contrast to many enterprise roles, this position demands versatility—developing and modernizing software across all layers, providing architectural insight, addressing technical debt, and enhancing system reliability. You will lead by example through hands-on implementation, perform thorough code reviews, and mentor team members. Furthermore, you will champion software-driven automation with a focus on CI/CD, infrastructure, and security as code. Embracing cloud-native patterns, such as containers and orchestration, will also be expected where applicable, as will advocacy for the practical use of AI tools endorsed by Humana to increase throughput and elevate code quality, ensuring usability and accessibility standards are met.

Required Skills & Capabilities

• Full Stack Application & Platform Engineering
  • Strong experience in creating and enhancing applications across the entire stack, including user experience, APIs, back-end services, data management, integrations, and hosting, with a focus on the Microsoft technology stack (e.g., .NET, SQL Server) and cloud solutions, particularly in Azure.
• Front-End / Web Engineering (UI, Accessibility, Performance)
  • Proven expertise in developing modern web user interfaces with a focus on component-based development, state management, and back-end API integration, alongside knowledge of accessibility best practices (e.g., WCAG) and performance optimization.
• API Design, Integration Patterns & Data Contracts
  • Experience in designing and evolving APIs and service interfaces (favoring REST; event-driven patterns where fitting), defining reliable data contracts, and integrating with third-party/services while considering authentication flows and minimizing integration fragility.
• Secure Engineering Across the Stack (AppSec)
  • Proven ability to implement secure-by-design practices throughout all layers, such as input validation, secrets management, and safeguards in the SDLC while aligning with delivery needs.
• DevOps, Automation, and Infrastructure/Security as Code
  • Experience architecting delivery pipelines and operational automation (CI/CD), adopting infrastructure as code and security as code principles, and enhancing developer experiences through self-service capabilities.
• Cloud-Native Patterns (Containers & Orchestration)
  • Basic understanding of containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and knowledge regarding their use to enhance scalability and consistency.
• Reliability, Observability & Operational Excellence
  • Capability to enhance production supportability through monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational documentation; experience in root-cause analysis and design resilience.

• Identify and tackle technical debt and reliability issues to bolster scalability and operational outcomes.
• Support modernization initiatives by enhancing UI/front-end and hardening backend services, focusing on automation.
• Collaborate with IT leaders to align architectural decisions with enterprise standards.
• Ensure compliance with security and HIPAA requirements by applying security strategies in the development process.
• Mentor engineers through design discussions and code reviews, while promoting effective delivery practices.
• Balance hands-on delivery alongside technical leadership responsibilities as priorities adjust.

Additional Information

• This is a remote position; however, occasional in-house training or meetings may require travel to Humana's offices.

Compensation

The compensation listed is a good faith estimate for full-time employment (40 hours/week) and may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications.

$106,900 - $147,000 annually

This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus incentive plan.
