About the Role

You will join a team of engineers responsible for building, running, and enhancing Sygnum’s electronic trading systems across crypto, FX and other assets.

As a senior software engineer, you will play a key role in delivering new features, driving scalability for trading processes and ensuring the quality and reliability of our systems.

This will encompass both the core flows for orders execution but also the automatic settlement and business monitoring.

Your Main Responsibilities

• Actively participate in developing new features and improvements by writing and reviewing high‑quality, secure code with comprehensive test coverage
• Constantly enhance the quality and security of applications, identifying existing technical debt and making plans to repay it
• Respond to production incidents promptly and efficiently, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to resolve issues and restore service continuity
• Collaborate with platform engineers to enhance CI/CD pipelines and streamline release processes
• Collaborate with site reliability engineers and solution architects to optimize application availability, resilience, and observability
• Nurture and guide more junior software engineers through coaching and mentoring

Our Ideal Candidate

This is a great opportunity for you if:

• You enjoy building scalable backend services using Java, ideally with Quarkus / Spring
• You have a good working knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, and containerization
• You have a deep understanding of microservices and event‑driven architecture, and can make pragmatic trade‑offs between performance, fault tolerance, and complexity
• You have hands‑on experience with building and scaling electronic trading systems or risk systems
• You have expertise in working with RDBMS (ideally Postgres)
• You have experience with utilizing Kafka
• You have experience with caching frameworks (ideally Redis)
• You have experience with designing flexible and robust REST APIs with an API‑first approach
• You have a collaborative and growth mindset
• You care about quality and security and bake those aspects in the software development lifecycle
• You are comfortable taking ownership of the whole development lifecycle, from designing solutions to running the application in production
• You take initiative and thrive when facing new opportunities and challenges

• You understand core trading system concerns such as order lifecycle management and high‑throughput event streams
• You have designed and operated systems with strict requirements around latency, throughput, reliability, and deterministic behaviour
