Your Role and Responsibilities
Drive Technical Delivery & Planning • Lead the refinement of stories and technical planning, breaking down intricate initiatives into clear, actionable, and scalable backend/API tasks while collaborating closely with product and architectural teams.
Develop & Manage Essential PBM APIs • Create, implement, and enhance high-performance, secure APIs and backend services that form the backbone of Humana's PBM ecosystem, ensuring reliability, scalability, and outstanding data integrity.
Promote Engineering Excellence • Champion quality engineering through diligent code reviews, best-practice coaching, automation enhancements, and proactive identification of performance, quality, and reliability risks.
Oversee Security, Scalability & Architectural Execution • Ensure our systems meet enterprise-grade security, performance, and architectural standards while working with architects to align implementations with long-term technical strategies.
Guide Documentation & Communication • Maintain thorough technical documentation—covering API contracts, architectural blueprints, and operational runbooks—and effectively communicate risks, trade-offs, and decisions across teams.
Mentor & Enhance the Engineering Team • Support engineers through technical challenges, boost engineering maturity within your squad, and cultivate a culture emphasizing craftsmanship, learning, and continuous growth.

Contribute Your Skills for Meaningful Change
Required Skills and Experience • 8+ years of escalating experience in software engineering, preferably in large-scale or enterprise environments • 2+ years of experience in technical leadership (team lead, senior lead, tech lead, or similar roles) • Proficiency in backend API development with experience in contemporary engineering practices (automated testing, CI/CD, cloud-native design) • A strong commitment to building solutions that genuinely enhance the healthcare journey for millions
Preferred Qualifications • A master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline • Experience with cloud platforms, distributed systems, or healthcare/PBM systems • Understanding of enterprise integration patterns, event-driven architectures, or scalable data access strategies

Work-At-Home Requirements
To ensure the effectiveness of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees, the internet service provided must meet the following standards:
A minimum download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; a wireless, wired cable, or DSL connection is preferred.
Satellite, cellular, and microwave connections can only be used with leadership approval.
Employees residing and working from Home in California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will receive a bi-weekly payment to assist with their internet expenses.
Humana will supply Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with the necessary telephone equipment for their role.
Work from a dedicated, interruption-free space to safeguard member PHI / HIPAA information.
Travel Requirements
Although this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana’s offices for training or meetings may be necessary.

Compensation Range
The compensation range listed reflects a good faith estimate of starting base salary for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The actual pay may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications such as demonstrated skills, knowledge, experience, education, and certifications.
$129,300 - $177,800 per year
This position is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on individual and/or company performance.
