About the role
Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering manager to join the our International Sovereign Platform Team (ISPT), leading and growing a geographically distributed team of engineers to build out and support the back-end operations infrastructure in the sovereign clouds Microsoft delivers around the world.
The ISPT are a growing international team within the Microsoft Azure Edge & Platform organisation. We deliver specialised cloud environments, known as sovereign clouds, that are designed to comply with the data laws of specific countries and regions. You would be part of the team specifically responsible for enabling secure cross-domain data transfer between the Azure public cloud and the sovereign clouds and the sovereign cloud operations infrastructure.

**Responsibilities**: Lead, coach and care for a geo-distributed team of engineers to build and subsequently support a series of sovereign cloud deployments around the world.
This includes:
- Building a happy, safe and effective team culture and supporting processes. - Building great partnerships with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements and coaching your team to do the same. - Breaking down long-term project vision into milestones. Anticipating future goals to guide future resources. Maintaining resource plans in response to changing context. - Delivering against project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers). - Coaching your team and driving their efforts to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve requisite security, privacy, safety, and accessibility standards. - Creating and assuring presence of visible evidence to demonstrate compliance. - Implementing appropriate continuous feedback loops measuring customer value, usage patterns, and other actionable metrics of value. - Building and maintaining communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers. Acting as a key contact for leadership to ensure alignment with partners' expectations. - Coaching others and driving efforts to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behaviour such as performance, reliability, availability, utility, and safety mechanisms. Driving sustainment of feedback loops from telemetry resulting in subsequent designs. Creating outputs of telemetry such as notifications or dashboards. - Coaching others in operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis. - Coaching others to implement solutions and mitigations to complex issues impacting performance or functionality of Live Site services. - Reviewing and writing postmortems and sharing insights with team. - Driving ongoing performance assessment and management processes. Helping your team members grow and realise their potential.
**Qualifications**: Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, with multiple years of experience leading teams to design, develop and support products/solutions in complex IT environments. - Strong leadership skills, able to develop and grow a diverse team of individuals to collaborate as a cohesive team in delivering outcomes. - Demonstrated experience as a people manager - Knowledge or experience of security requirements, controls and solutions - Strong sense of accountability, solid project management and outstanding communication skills. - Very good English skills and good communication skills in reading/writing of the French language
Desired:
- Experience of leading international teams across multiple continents and cultures. - Experience with hyper converged infrastructure and hyperscale cloud - ideally Azure HCI and Azure public cloud - Experience of the challenges of system and service management in high security domains.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. - Customer or government screening requirements as needed over time.
