Senior Staff Product Manager, Apache Iceberg

Your Role:

As the Senior Staff Product Manager focusing on Apache Iceberg and Open Table Formats, you will spearhead the strategy, community development, and technical execution of Teradata's Iceberg features. This role uniquely combines community engagement and ecosystem leadership with product development and performance engineering. You will act as the primary representative of Teradata in the Apache Iceberg open-source community while ensuring seamless integration of Iceberg into Teradata's platform for exceptional lakehouse performance.

Community Engagement & Ecosystem Leadership:

• Serve as Teradata's key advocate in the Apache Iceberg community, establishing trust and credibility among contributors and the Apache Software Foundation (ASF).
• Craft and implement a robust community strategy to enhance Teradata's presence among data engineers and lakehouse architects engaged with Iceberg.
• Develop strong relationships with the ASF, participating in Iceberg PMC discussions and contributing to project governance.
• Promote thought leadership through conferences, blogs, technical papers, and social media on Iceberg topics.
• Collaborate with partners and vendors to ensure Teradata's Iceberg implementation is interoperable and strategically positioned in the lakehouse ecosystem.
• Create informative content including tutorials and best-practice guides for using Iceberg with Teradata.

Product Strategy & Performance Engineering:

• Oversee the product roadmap for Iceberg integration, focusing on capabilities like read/write operations, catalog interoperability, and optimization.
• Work closely with engineering teams to enhance performance for Iceberg workloads, addressing areas like query planning and data compaction.
• Define product requirements for Iceberg-specific functionalities such as time travel and hidden partitioning.
• Conduct competitive analyses of Iceberg implementations and convert insights into actionable product investments.
• Collaborate with engineering to ensure strong ACID guarantees and multi-engine interoperability for Iceberg support.
• Establish benchmarks and metrics for assessing performance in Iceberg operations, including efficiency and latency.

Leadership Across Teams:

• Facilitate collaboration among engineering, developer relations, product marketing, and sales to align Iceberg strategy with Teradata's vision.
• Guide work prioritization to balance community engagement, technical feasibility, competitive stance, and timely delivery.
• Effectively navigate a matrixed organization to influence project success through clarity and data alignment.
• Utilize foundational AI skills to explore innovative applications of AI that enhance productivity across teams.

Qualifications:

• 12+ years of product management experience in data infrastructure or analytics, with a history of successful platform-level capability launches.
• Deep understanding of Apache Iceberg or similar open table formats, focusing on metadata design and query optimization.
• Experience with open-source community engagement, contributing to or leading Apache Software Foundation initiatives.
• Technical fluency with lakehouse architecture concepts including ACID transactions and schema evolution.
• Proven leadership of cross-functional teams, specifically in areas related to engineering and go-to-market strategies.
• Foundational AI skills with an understanding of how AI can drive improved results in your domain.

• Experience developing and expanding developer communities around data infrastructure or open-source technologies.
• Strong background in database performance engineering and query optimization.
• Understanding of Iceberg ecosystem tools and services relevant to catalogs and compute engines.
• History of public thought leadership through conference speaking or technical writing.
• Experience assisting enterprise customers with lakehouse adoption or migration strategies.
• Insight into competitive landscapes including Snowflake, Databricks, and Cloudera.

Pay Rate:

182700.0000 - 228400.0000 - 274,000.00 Annually

Starting pay will be determined based on location, internal equity, knowledge, skills, and experience. Sales roles are eligible for commission based on achievement, while all other roles may participate in annual incentive plans linked to company performance.
