Join Coinbase's Financial Services & Loyalty (FS&L) team where you will help create innovative financial products leveraging blockchain technology. FS&L is responsible for crucial products like payments, credit cards, on-chain lending and borrowing, staking, and the CB One subscription, benefiting millions of users.

We are seeking a highly technical leader to set the engineering vision for FS&L, ensure architectural integrity across our diverse product offerings, and maintain the scalability and reliability of our high-throughput systems. You will spearhead multi-quarter initiatives that cross organizational lines and serve as a vital mentor to fellow senior engineers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Define and develop the technical vision and strategy for FS&L, guaranteeing systems achieve high throughput and low latency at scale.
• Architect and implement mission-critical financial systems (such as card processing and loan repayments) with a focus on funds flow and reconciliation.
• Enhance developer productivity by promoting innovative tools such as Go, Temporal, K8, and MongoDB, alongside AI integration.
• Mentor and guide team members to cultivate their growth and technical capabilities.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to synchronize long-term product and engineering objectives.
• Lead the development of reusable platforms for widespread adoption across Coinbase.

What We Look For In You (Must-Haves)

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly with large-scale distributed systems.
• In-depth knowledge of payments or traditional financial systems.
• Proven track record in architecting and developing high-throughput, low-latency financial systems with the capability of processing $500M monthly.
• Strong grasp of funds flow, reconciliation processes, and financial system invariants.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives across different organizations and ensure architectural alignment.
• A passion for mentoring and empowering your teammates.
• Experience in consumer products with an emphasis on design and user experience.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with Go or other high-performance backend programming languages.
• Familiarity with vendor integrations and navigating regulated environments.
• A forward-thinking mindset towards crypto applications (e.g., on-chain activities and blockchain payment procedures).

Compensation & Benefits

• Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $253,895-$298,700 USD
• Total compensation may include equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
