About the role
Leidos is seeking a talented and motivated TS/SCI cleared Senior Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. You will play a pivotal role in designing, engineering, developing, and deploying innovative software solutions for the DIA-NMEC (National Media Exploitation Center) DOMEX Technology Platform (DTP). This opportunity is part of a 10-year contract supporting crucial modernization efforts and the mission of centralizing Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) operations within the DoD and IC enterprise.
The ideal candidate will be essential to our solutions-oriented team, contributing to mission-critical objectives and fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The role entails working closely with the Lead Systems Engineer and various project leads to translate high-priority requirements into actionable deliverables, encompassing requirements analysis, design, system integration, and testing.
Responsibilities
- Managing and directing the application development team to ensure continuous enhancement and deployment of software solutions.
- Planning, designing, and overseeing the implementation of systems engineering activities, including analysis, integration, testing, and documentation.
- Maintaining sound engineering practices across all development efforts.
- Providing guidance on the application of policies and procedures to engineering projects.
- Collaborating with development teams for high-value integrations with various systems and applications.
- Managing and continuously improving the backlog for an Agile scrum team, ensuring the team focuses on the most impactful tasks.
- Supporting Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) program increment planning and documentation creation using tools like GitLab.
- Facilitating Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Conducting regular backlog refinement sessions to ensure proper prioritization and clarity of acceptance criteria.
- Assessing completed work against acceptance criteria to guarantee quality delivery.
- Leading the design and architecture of backend systems and services.
- Driving initiatives related to system scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Creating and reviewing technical documentation including requirements and design specifications.
- Coordinating with the Test Team to develop and monitor automated integration tests.
- Managing project priorities, deliverables, and deadlines effectively.
- Fostering a collaborative environment focused on quality outcomes for our customers.
- Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, providing support on best practices and professional development.
Qualifications
- A BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field with 12-15 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 10-13 years of experience.
- An active Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with Polygraph.
- Strong software development experience in Java or Python.
- Experience in a Systems Engineer, Product Owner, or similar role within an Agile team.
- Familiarity with requirements and design documentation, including process flow diagrams.
- Proven ability to decompose complex problems into manageable tasks.
- Expertise in managing and prioritizing product backlogs effectively.
- Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and tools such as GitLab, Jira, and Confluence.
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and project management.
Additional Experience (Valued)
- Familiarity with message passing systems like Kafka.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and enterprise systems.
- Hands-on experience with Appian or low-code technologies.
- Technical knowledge in PostgreSQL, containerization (Docker), and DevOps practices.
- Proficiency in building and maintaining microservices and Kubernetes deployments.
- Knowledge of security best practices for service architecture.
This position is primarily on-site at our client location in Bethesda, MD, with flexible scheduling options and occasional remote work allowed.
