Senior Technical Architect – MES & Industry 4.0 (Information Solutions)
BASE Automation
About the role
Key Responsibilities:
Solution & Enterprise Architecture • Define end‑to‑end MES / Industry 4.0 architectures covering shop‑floor connectivity, data acquisition, MES functions, integration to ERP/WMS/QMS and analytics layers. • Translate business and functional requirements into architecture blueprints, reference designs and technology choices for each opportunity. • Ensure architectures are scalable, secure, maintainable and aligned with BASE’s standards and customer enterprise guidelines.
Platform Strategy (Ignition, FTPC, Rockwell FT) • Establish and maintain reference architectures and patterns for Ignition‑based and Rockwell FTPC / FactoryTalk‑based MES and IIoT solutions. • Guide how Ignition, FTPC and Rockwell FT components are best combined with historians, databases, cloud services and OT systems for robust solutions. • Review and approve critical design decisions and custom extensions on these platforms for key projects.
Pre‑Sales & Deal Shaping • Support pre‑sales by creating high‑level designs, sizing, deployment models (on‑prem / cloud / hybrid) and integration approaches for strategic deals. • Participate in key customer meetings as the senior technical authority, presenting and defending solution architecture choices to CXO and enterprise/IT stakeholders. • Provide architecture inputs to proposals and RFP/RFQ responses, including assumptions, risks, technology stack and non‑functional requirements.
Governance, Quality & Reuse • Define architecture and design guidelines, coding standards and review checklists for MES / Industry 4.0 solutions. • Conduct formal design and architecture reviews for critical projects to ensure adherence to standards, performance, security and maintainability requirements. • Drive reuse by building and curating a library of reusable components, templates, integration patterns and deployment scripts.
Collaboration with application & Delivery • Work closely with the application team to define technical scope and boundaries for prototypes/PoCs, ensuring they align with the target architecture. • Guide project teams during implementation on key technical decisions (data models, integration design, performance tuning, security configurations). • Provide escalation support for complex technical issues in ongoing projects and help define sustainable fixes rather than one‑off patches.
Technology Leadership & Roadmapping • Track technology trends in MES, Industry 4.0, edge, cloud and data platforms and assess their relevance for solution offerings. • Recommend platform evolution and roadmap (Ignition versions/modules, Rockwell FT/FTPC capabilities, data platforms, cloud integration options) in line with strategy. • Mentor Senior Technical Consultant and Technical Consultants on architecture thinking, trade‑offs and best practices.
Knowledge & Skills:
Technical Skills • Deep knowledge of MES concepts (production dispatching, tracking, genealogy, quality, OEE, maintenance integration) and integration with PLC/SCADA, ERP, WMS and other OT/IT systems. • Strong architectural understanding and practical experience with Ignition and Rockwell FactoryTalk platforms, exposure to FTPC is a strong plus. • Experience designing solutions involving industrial data platforms, historians, SQL/NoSQL databases, and basic analytics/visualisation stacks. • Familiarity with security, performance, high availability, and scalability considerations in industrial software architectures.
Soft Skills • Strong leadership and stakeholder‑management skills; able to influence without formal authority across BU, sales, and delivery teams. • Excellent communication and presentation skills, comfortable with both technical deep‑dives and executive‑level conversations. • Structured thinking, strong documentation discipline, and ability to manage multiple opportunities/projects in parallel.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Production, Computer Science or equivalent) is preferred • Advanced certifications in MES, architecture frameworks or cloud/edge technologies are an advantage. • 12+ years of experience in MES, industrial software or related domains, including significant hands‑on design and implementation exposure. • Several end‑to‑end MES / Industry 4.0 implementations in discrete manufacturing; tyre, automotive or auto‑components experience is a strong advantage. • Proven experience in a solution architect / technical architect role, leading architecture for complex or multi‑site projects.
