About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Technical Architect / Hands-On Implementer with 10+ years of experience to join our team and lead a high-impact data transformation initiative for a leading financial services client.
This role will be embedded within a front-office aligned data environment, focused on re-architecting reference and security data systems currently built on Markit EDM / SecMaster.
You will play a critical role in diagnosing systemic data and architectural issues, defining a future-state platform, and driving implementation of a modern, scalable, AI-enabled data ecosystem.
This is a client-facing, delivery-focused role requiring a deep technical leader who can both architect and build.
Key Objectives
- Diagnose and resolve systemic issues in reference and security data architecture
- Separate and rationalize reference data vs. time-series/calculated data
- Define and implement a future-state architecture
- Enable transition toward a modern, AI-native engineering model
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Delivery Leadership
- Own the end-to-end architecture for reference and security data within the client environment
- Reverse engineer current systems (Markit EDM / SecMaster) to:
- Identify root causes of data quality issues
- Uncover architectural limitations and misuses
- Define and drive a target-state architecture aligned to business and scalability needs
Hands-On Implementation
- Act as both architect and lead engineer
- Design and build solutions across:
- Data pipelines and processing frameworks
- Event-driven / pub-sub architectures
- Multi-model data systems
- Make key design decisions on:
- What logic/data should remain in EDM vs. be externalized
Modernization & Innovation
- Introduce and implement next-generation architecture patterns, including:
- Event-driven and streaming architectures
- Data lineage, observability, and dependency mapping
- AI/LLM-enabled and agentic engineering workflows
- Help shift the client away from traditional ETL-heavy approaches toward modern paradigms
Client Engagement & Leadership
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to client stakeholders
- Interface with:
- Portfolio Managers
- Business and data stakeholders
- Senior NYC leadership
- Translate complex technical challenges into actionable solutions
- Mentor and guide a junior AI-enabled engineer
Required Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Strong experience in:
- Data architecture + hands-on engineering
- Designing and implementing enterprise-scale data platforms
- Experience with:
- Reference data / security master systems (strongly preferred)
- OR market data platforms (acceptable alternative)
- Proven ability to:
- Reverse engineer complex systems
- Redesign architectures from the ground up
Modern Technology Exposure
- Familiarity with:
- Event-driven architectures (Kafka, pub-sub, etc.)
- Data lineage / metadata frameworks
- LLMs and AI-native architectures
- Agentic or AI-assisted engineering workflows
Critical Experience
- Buy-side financial services experience is strongly preferred (asset management, hedge funds, etc.)
- 10+ years of experience in the target role space
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $250,000 - $300,000, with flexibility for exceptional candidates
