This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Landscape Architect for our Baltimore, Maryland office. The following locations will also be considered: Washington, DC; Herndon, VA; Philadelphia, PA. Be involved in projects with our Transportation and Infrastructure Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

Expertise and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates strong commitment to keeping up to date in technical knowledge of current practice and becoming proficient in applying emerging practices.
  • Ability to lead and manage others in producing high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals.
  • Applies substantial broad knowledge and judgment for a particular function.
  • Serves as an expert in the field, developing and conducting training sessions/courses on new concepts, approaches, and/or materials to enhance the capabilities of staff.
  • Routinely interacts with clients, officials, contractors, and others, using developed negotiation skills to resolve critical issues.
  • Ensures the quality of technical work produced with projects and practices.
  • Helps lead marketing and business development efforts.
  • Promotes teamwork, maintaining positive morale, and instilling a creative culture.
  • Leads implementation of Quality Plan.
  • May be required to sign and seal contract documents.
  • Completes designs for applicable projects, prepares landscape architectural design plans, construction details, construction estimates, and contract specifications.
  • Prepares project specifications including compiling and analyzing relevant data.
  • Conducts field work, site investigations, and construction inspections gathering information and compiling reports for management.
  • Performs landscape architectural construction related services.
  • Prepares technical reports and assists in the development of proposals.
  • Prepares CAD landscape plans.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams in executing project work.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with other landscape architects, engineers, professionals, and building authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded building and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or closely related.
  • 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience working on landscape architecture planning, design and construction services assignments associated with transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with landscape architectural site design tasks including scope and fee proposals; site, planting and hardscape design; specifications; cost estimates; and QAQC review.
  • Knowledge of or experience with environmental and water resources applications of landscape architecture including schedule and deliverable management, progress reporting, and quality review for projects associated with NPDES, MS4, and EPA‑established TMDLs; preparation of documents compliant with DNR Roadside Tree Law, Reforestation Law, and Forest Conservation Act; Maryland Critical Area Act; and storm water management planting design.
  • Knowledge of or experience with projects and procedures for MDOT SHA (State Highway Administration), MDTA (Maryland Transportation Authority), MTA (Maryland Transit Administration), MAA (Maryland Aviation Administration), and MPA (Maryland Port Administration).
  • Excellent technical writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation and Google SketchUp.
  • Competent creative, visualization, and technical drawing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non‑technical audience.
  • Capable self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Degree.
  • Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) in Maryland with capability of achieving licensure in other states.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations including American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and Design‑Build Professional (DBIA).
  • Capability of achieving International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist status.
