Job Overview

We are looking for a Senior Transmission Line Engineering Manager to lead a dynamic and collaborative team in a fast-paced setting, addressing complex electric transmission challenges. In this role, you will act as a project manager and lead engineer for electric transmission line design projects that encompass both overhead and underground systems for major utilities across the nation as well as regional providers. You will utilize NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and other relevant standards for engineering and design in capital and maintenance projects ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV.

Your responsibilities will include directing a team of engineers who perform engineering analyses, PLS-CADD modeling, structure loading calculations, and drafting plans, specifications, and procurement documents across various project phases including planning, engineering, environmental review, permitting, and construction management.

This senior leadership position entails key responsibilities in client relations, staff oversight, proposal development, scope management, project execution, and business expansion for the team’s project portfolio. The successful applicant will oversee direct reports and have the opportunity to cultivate a growing engineering team. Strong communication skills are essential for setting clear expectations, goals, and vision; managing performance; coaching, mentoring, and delegating work effectively. Work Location: 100% REMOTE (must reside within the U.S., preferably in the Mountain time zone).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple design teams concurrently, executing various projects for diverse clients
  • Mentor and develop engineers through training and coaching
  • Supervise team performance, including approving timesheets and managing annual reviews
  • Actively participate as a member of the Transmission Line Section leadership team
  • Prepare responses to RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs, including proposal creation and scope definition
  • Embrace a growth mindset to tackle complex client issues creatively
  • Enhance departmental processes and tools to facilitate efficiency and innovation
  • Delegate tasks effectively, forecast workloads, and manage recruitment to meet growth objectives
  • Lead the quality assurance process to ensure superior deliverables
  • Nurture client relations to promote business growth and long-term partnerships
  • Manage project portfolios effectively, ensuring adherence to scope, schedules, and budgets with support from Leidos' Project Management Office

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; preference for Civil Engineering
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission system design with a Bachelor's degree, or 6+ years with a Master's degree
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently
  • Excellent communication skills for client interactions
  • Strong business acumen with proven ability to achieve project performance metrics
  • Willingness to work on-site at Leidos' or client offices as needed; some travel may be required
  • Passion for staff development through mentoring

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience supervising staff
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Experience with TOWER software
  • EIT or PE certification
  • Experience with LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and GIS is a plus

Pay Range

$92,300.00 - $166,850.00
