Senior UI/UX Design and Research Engineer

Overview

GovCIO is seeking a Senior UI/UX Design and Research Engineer with a passion for creating exceptional user experiences. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience collaborating with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Software Architects, Software Quality Assurance, and customers, focusing on Human/Customer Centric research, design, and implementation of application user interfaces. You will work closely with React/Redux and Full Stack Developers to guide design, execution, and implementation, all while enhancing the Veteran Experience across various departments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement user interface components using React.js, Redux, and a comprehensive design system library, while focusing on robust integrations with REST/SOAP APIs and other web services.
• Participate in system planning and the deployment process, ensuring compliance with software standards.
• Oversee frontend development processes, create user guidelines, and conduct system analysis to clarify program intentions and specifications.
• Lead and mentor a team of developers to ensure high-quality deliverables and meet project timelines.
• Establish best practices and coding standards to uphold excellence within the team.
• Collaborate in gathering user requirements, developing user stories, and planning project timelines.
• Prepare comprehensive documentation, including reports and operational procedures, for effective communication and record-keeping.
• Lead integration testing efforts to ensure seamless functionality.
• Maintain proactive communication with stakeholders to address project issues promptly.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of system requirements, including data flow and input/output specifications.
• Participate in code and sprint reviews to ensure all deliverables meet project specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of related experience.
• Proven experience leading human-centered design activities.
• Strong development skills in React/Redux.
• Analytical skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience supervising front-end developers with proven leadership capabilities.
• Familiarity with Agile Methodology and Scrum processes.
• Advanced knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
• Experience with government cloud hosting environments like AWS.
• Familiarity with testing strategies (unit and end-to-end testing).
• Experience using project management tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, Confluence).
• Demonstrated experience working remotely.
• Must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with the VA or other Federal agencies, understanding federal processes and regulations.
• Familiarity with the VA.gov platform and its ecosystem.
• Knowledge of government cloud services and managing web hosting environments.
• Proficient in leveraging API services to enhance user experience and optimize processes.

Clearance

Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.
