Role Overview

The Service Project Manager is responsible for managing large, complex inter‑disciplinary projects for Smiths security equipment products and third‑party solutions. Projects span multiple functional areas and involve both Business and Technology departments. Responsibilities include stakeholder management, applying Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) best practices, and adding rigor and process to project/program definition, implementation, and deployment. The role partners with Business and Technology Functional Leads to lead design reviews, delivery planning and execution, governance, status reporting, risk and issues management, and budget tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all workers adhere to applicable safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Services, Programs and the customer to assemble a feasible project plan that meets company expectations.
  • Lead and motivate a cross‑functional project team in a matrix organization to accomplish project goals and deliverables.
  • Prioritize efforts for team members and find resourceful ways to accomplish tasks on time in a resource‑constrained environment.
  • Understand revenue models, P/L, and cost‑to‑completion projections.
  • Accurately forecast project milestones and revenue to reduce unnecessary labor cost.
  • Create and manage project plans and schedules that meet internal and external customer needs.
  • Proactively identify and manage program risks with the teams.
  • Ensure all project team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide performance input to functional managers.
  • Establish contingency plans, identify trigger events, and initiate corrective action when needed.
  • Manage project schedules and budgets, delivering revenue and deliverables on schedule.
  • Manage deployment, relocation and decommissioning of field‑service security equipment (internal/external).
  • Communicate project status and priorities to the team, upper management, customers and stakeholders.
  • Provide SOW comments and cost‑estimate input for proposal preparation when needed.
  • Produce ad‑hoc reporting and analysis as required by management.
  • Identify revenue sources and consult with senior management and directors on opportunity status.
  • Work with Service Managers and Program Manager to utilize field resources for project work.
  • Exercise all available measures to control and minimize costs while maximizing revenue.
  • Accept additional project and/or program tasks as directed.
  • Comply with all applicable export control and security regulations; obtain and maintain required government clearances.
  • Promote and comply with all relevant legal requirements, Smiths policies and procedures, including business ethics, data protection and health & safety.

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of deployment management experience or extensive field experience on deployment.
  • Program Management Professional (PMP/PMI) certification preferred; if not held, must be willing to achieve PMP certification within 2 years.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct business experience with TSA ILS/SESI programs and/or projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of Project Management and Business Analysis tools (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project, Visio).
  • Working knowledge of CAS compliance and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PMBOK/PMI methodologies.
  • Proven project management skills—scheduling, on‑time delivery, managing customer expectations, stakeholder management.

Background / Clearance Requirements

  • May require Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and vetting via the TSA.
  • May require a U.S. Personal Security Clearance.
  • Position is with a Federal Contractor and a drug‑free workplace; a drug test may be required prior to or during employment as permitted by law.

  • Salary range: $65,760 – $180,200 per year, varying by location, skills, knowledge, and experience.
