About the Role

  • Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Service Technologist will engage in the development of cable manufacturing machinery to rival industry leaders.
  • This collaborative role involves working with cross‑functional engineering and production teams, requiring a team player mindset.
  • The position is essential for our client’s engineered projects and directly impacts company growth and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Installation of engineered solutions into our client’s customers’ facilities
  • Equipment and machine commissioning, including machine assembly (electrical and mechanical)
  • Program installation and troubleshooting
  • Machine validation and testing, including all related problem solving
  • Equipment training for customers
  • Customer service and preventative maintenance
  • Technical writing – documenting procedures and writing compiled work instructions
  • End‑user manual – validation, writing, and modifications
  • End‑user machine testing – UI testing, alarm validation, and safety testing
  • Service documentation – field service reports and action item reports

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Service Technician/Technologist or Engineer working for an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
  • Graduate of a 3‑year electrical or electro‑mechanical engineering technical program from a post‑secondary school or better
  • Experience in Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC troubleshooting; Siemens experience is an asset
  • Strong programming skills (PLCs, HMIs, drives) on the Rockwell platform
  • Experience with advanced PLC / HMI programming and/or Siemens PLCs/HMIs/Drives, plus experience in the cable manufacturing industry or with similar rotary equipment, is highly preferred
  • Good knowledge of VFDs, including operation, setup, and tuning
  • Excellent mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic skills and knowledge
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, with the ability to assemble, understand, and solve issues
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); multilingual abilities are an asset (e.g., Spanish, German, Italian)
  • Travel‑friendly: this position is not a road warrior, but applicants must be comfortable working 30% out of town and able to work in Canada and the US (including valid passport and no travel restrictions)
  • Clean Driver’s License (G)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 lbs. on a routine basis
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairways regularly throughout the work shift
  • Ability to observe conditions and others as a safety attendant, staying alert while seated for long periods as needed
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and other tools and equipment in a safe and controlled manner
  • Ability to perform inspections of site, tools, and equipment
  • Ability to perform behavioral observations focused on safety and process improvement
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and to report any incident, unsafe act, or unsafe condition immediately to the site supervisor and safety manager
