Position Overview

York Space Systems is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Senior I for our SRE team. This individual will be responsible for coordination with internal and external product software teams in designing, planning, implementing, and maintaining applications and environments related to product connectivity and functionality of software solutions on York programs. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, has experience administering systems on‑premises and in the cloud, and can communicate technical designs with both technical and non‑technical audiences.

The SRE Senior I will support the Program Manager, Mission Lead System Engineer, and Mission Software Architect to determine the tasks and activities needed to deliver simulations, ground software, flight software, and site reliability and engineering services for customer missions. This position will be a critical member of missions within our Software Engineering (SWE) division, ensuring the reliability and performance of delivered software solutions by driving the design, automation, and provisioning of program environments as well as deployment, execution, and monitoring of SWE products in those environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support mission operations in the successful deployment and execution of ground software and simulations for mission rehearsals, training, and the full mission operations lifecycle
  • Participate in internal and external customer program meetings as the technical implementation expert for SWE products and services
  • Collaborate on program lifecycle design, development, integration, test and deployment of SWE software products and services to missions
  • Develop documentation and architectural diagrams
  • Other duties as assigned by the SRE Team Lead

Qualifications

Required for the Role

  • Ability to work independently, under tight deadlines, with vague requirements
  • Employ systems administration knowledge to investigate interconnected services, hardware, systems, software applications, ports, protocols, and services
  • Experience with architectural design principles and considerations including separation of concerns, scalability, security by design, and interoperability
  • Strong oral and written communication skills – ability to effectively articulate technical designs to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn new technologies
  • 4‑6 years' experience as a site reliability engineer or software engineer contributing to infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, cloud operations, and production system optimization
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an engineering‑related field
  • Percentage of Travel Required: 10% travel out of state
  • Clearance: Not required to start; must be a U.S. citizen that is eligible for and willing to obtain a Secret clearance

Preferred for the Role

  • Experience with the following tools is preferred, but not required:
    • Ansible, Terraform, Docker
    • Hypervisors: VMWare, Hyper‑V, Proxmox
    • GitLab and pipelines
    • Atlassian products (Confluence, Jira)
    • Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure
  • 3+ years' experience as a systems administrator for cloud (Azure or AWS) and on‑premises operations centers
  • CompTIA Security+
