About the role
Position Overview
The Network Construction Project Manager is responsible for overseeing small cell and node deployment projects from initiation through completion. This role requires strong project management, technical telecom knowledge, and field coordination experience to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- Manage multiple small cell and fiber construction projects simultaneously
- Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and deliverables
- Create and distribute work packages for vendors and contractors
- Track project progress and proactively resolve risks or delays
- Ensure projects meet KPIs such as on-time installation and budget adherence
Construction Oversight
- Coordinate and supervise:
- OSP fiber construction (bore, trenching, aerial, leased duct)
- Small cell/node installations (pole, foundation, power, RF components)
- Manage construction crews and vendors in the field
- Ensure compliance with safety standards (OSHA, NEC, NESC)
- Oversee 811 utility locating processes and safe excavation practices
Technical Coordination
- Review and interpret:
- Fiber construction drawings
- Small cell design plans
- Support node and power installation processes, including metered power delivery
- Troubleshoot construction and RF-related issues
Stakeholder Communication
- Collaborate cross-functionally with:
- Engineering
- Permitting
- Regulatory
- Operations
- Project Delivery teams
- Provide timely updates to stakeholders and leadership
- Communicate effectively with vendors, inspectors, and internal teams
Financial & Administrative Duties
- Prepare and manage purchase orders (POs)
- Track contractor invoices and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking
- Maintain project documentation and reporting
- Generate progress reports and highlight risks or variances
Reporting & Tools
- Maintain accurate data in company systems
- Use tools such as:
- Microsoft Excel
- SmartSheets
- Support ad hoc reporting and analytics requests
Required Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License (required)
- OSHA 10 Certification (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years in telecommunications or wireless construction
- Hands-on experience with:
- Small cell deployment
- Node construction and design
- OSP fiber construction (aerial and underground)
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of:
- Fiber and small cell construction techniques
- OTDR, PIM, and Sweep testing methods
- NEC, NESC, and OSHA standards
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
