About the role

About Mventech Group

Mventech Group is a dynamic and growing mining and resources consulting firm headquartered in Centurion, Gauteng. We partner with clients across project sites to deliver innovative, design-led, and technically rigorous consulting solutions. Our culture is built on expertise, integrity, and a commitment to developing the next generation of industry professionals. At Mventech, we live our tagline: Innovate · Design · Consult.

The Opportunity

Mventech Group is seeking a seasoned SMPP Supervisor to lead structural, mechanical, piping, and platework construction activities across its mining and resources project portfolio. This is a 3-year fixed term contract in a hands-on field leadership role for a trade-qualified professional who thrives in technically demanding site environments and holds safety, quality, and schedule to a consistently high standard. If you have built your career directing multi-trade construction crews and are ready to deliver at pace for an ambitious and growing consultancy, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate SMPP construction crews and subcontractors to ensure all work is executed safely, on programme, and to the specified quality standard.
  • Conduct daily pre-task briefings and toolbox talks, ensuring all personnel understand the work scope, associated hazards, and applicable safe work procedures before commencing activities.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, fabrication specifications, and work packages to direct accurate and compliant field execution.
  • Monitor and enforce quality standards across structural, mechanical, piping, and platework activities in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements.
  • Track field progress against the construction schedule; identify deviations promptly and implement corrective actions to protect project milestones and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, plant and equipment availability, and resource allocation to maintain uninterrupted construction workflow across all SMPP disciplines.
  • Identify, document, and report non-conformances, near misses, and safety incidents; participate actively in root cause analysis and drive corrective action implementation to closure.
  • Liaise with engineers, project managers, and client site representatives to resolve technical queries and manage field variations in a timely and documented manner.
  • Maintain accurate and complete site records, including daily progress reports, timesheets, inspection and test records, and as-built documentation.

Minimum Requirements

You must have

  • Trade qualification (Red Seal) in a relevant SMPP discipline, such as boilermaker, millwright, pipefitter, or rigger.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in SMPP construction on mining, minerals processing, or heavy industrial projects, with at least two years in a supervisory or leading-hand role.
  • Demonstrated competency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and fabrication specifications.
  • Valid medical certificate of fitness for site work.
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code EB).

It would advantage you to have

  • First-line supervision qualification or recognised construction supervisor certificate.
  • Experience on EPCM-delivered mining or minerals processing projects.
  • Familiarity with a recognised quality management system, such as ISO 9001, and associated quality control documentation practices.
  • SAMTRAC or equivalent health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ) qualification.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and site progress reporting tools.

Competencies and Attributes

  • Technical proficiency across multiple SMPP disciplines, with the ability to identify and resolve field execution challenges without unnecessary escalation.
  • Strong leadership and crew management capability, with a consistent track record of maintaining productivity, discipline, and morale across multi-trade site teams.
  • Rigorous commitment to safety compliance, quality assurance, and zero-defect construction standards throughout all phases of work.
  • Clear and effective communication with engineering personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives in a fast-paced, high-pressure site environment.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach to construction schedule pressure, resource constraints, and field-level problem-solving.

Why Join Mventech Group?

At Mventech, field supervisors are valued for more than their trade credentials. You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers on technically demanding mining and resources projects, with genuine pathways into senior construction management roles. Mventech’s collaborative project culture, expanding portfolio, and deliberate commitment to professional development make this an exceptional opportunity for an SMPP professional ready to lead at a higher level.
