Software Developer (Part-Time Technical Architecture Advisor)

Origin Staffing

Surfside · flexible Part-time Lead Today

About the role

About

Origin Staffing is an established boutique recruiting firm with a strong client base, a trusted brand, and more than a decade of operating history. We are building a confidential internal technology platform designed to improve how our recruiting business manages workflow, communication, candidate/client information, notes, historical placement records, reporting, and day-to-day operating intelligence.

This is not a traditional software development role.

Our founder (with 20 years of deep domain expertise) has already built a substantial backend foundation using agentic coding through Codex, and we intend to remain a Codex-first development environment. We are looking for an experienced technical advisor, senior software architect, principal engineer, or hands-on fractional CTO type who understands modern AI-assisted development and can help make sure the platform is being built the right way.

The ideal person has real software engineering experience from before AI coding tools became mainstream, but has also embraced Codex and agentic coding as a serious development workflow. We do not need someone to manually rebuild everything from scratch. We need someone who can help guide, review, structure, challenge, harden, and improve a fast-moving AI-assisted build.

What You’ll Help With

You will work directly with the founder as a senior technical sounding board and architecture advisor. Areas may include:

  • Reviewing the current backend structure, architecture decisions, and technical direction.
  • Helping determine the best path for infrastructure, deployment, environments, CI/CD, and source-control workflow.
  • Advising on Microsoft Azure DevOps versus GitHub workflows and related engineering-process decisions.
  • Helping shape the frontend strategy and how the frontend/backend should come together.
  • Reviewing Codex-generated plans, code, migrations, contracts, tests, and documentation for quality and long-term maintainability.
  • Helping define safer approaches to data access, permissions, auditability, confidential information, and production-readiness.
  • Advising on future AI/agentic layers, local or proprietary LLM options, workflow automation, and integration strategy.
  • Helping prioritize what should be built, hardened, refactored, tested, or deferred.
  • Supporting future web-development and platform-adjacent projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For

The strongest fit will likely be someone who already has a full-time role or consulting practice and wants a highly focused, local, part-time advisory engagement.

Required or strongly preferred:

  • Significant hands-on software engineering or software architecture experience.
  • Direct experience using Codex or comparable agentic coding tools in a real development workflow.
  • Strong belief that AI-assisted coding can be powerful when paired with senior technical judgment, testing, review, and architecture discipline.
  • Ability to review generated code critically rather than accepting it blindly.
  • Experience with backend systems, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, security, CI/CD, and production-readiness.
  • Ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to a founder/operator who is deeply involved in the product but is not a traditional software engineer.
  • Comfort working in a founder-led, fast-moving, confidential build environment.
  • Local to Miami Beach / Surfside, FL

Strong Pluses

  • Prior experience as a senior software architect, principal engineer, tech lead, founding engineer, CTO, or fractional CTO.
  • Experience building larger workflow platforms, SaaS products, internal operating systems, CRM-adjacent tools, recruiting/staffing technology, business intelligence tools, email/workflow systems, or automation-heavy platforms.
  • Experience with Python/FastAPI, SQL databases, cloud deployment, Azure, Azure DevOps, GitHub, modern frontend frameworks, OpenAI/Codex, local LLMs, agent orchestration, or AI-assisted engineering workflows.
  • Experience helping founder-led or nontraditional technical teams turn a promising internal platform into a more production-grade system.
  • Experience with secure data handling, permissions, audit trails, confidential business data, and staged access controls.

Engagement Details

  • Part-time advisory role.
  • Initial expectation: approximately 4–5 hours per week.
  • Preferred cadence: one in-person working session per week in Miami Beach / Surfside, FL.
  • Schedule can be flexible and may evolve over time.
  • Initial work is expected to be in person so we can collaborate directly, build trust, and review confidential materials in a controlled environment.
  • Some remote flexibility may be possible later once the working relationship is established.
  • This could remain a small advisory engagement, or it could grow depending on the platform’s needs and business direction.
  • Hourly compensation at market rates, based on experience.
  • Confidentiality agreement required before detailed product review.

This Is a Good Fit If You

  • Enjoy helping founders make better technical decisions.
  • Are excited by Codex-first and agentic coding workflows.
  • Know how to review, test, and harden AI-generated implementation work.
  • Can move between big-picture architecture and practical code-level concerns.
  • Prefer a focused advisory role over a large full-time commitment.
  • Are comfortable working with confidential internal business systems.
  • Can bring calm technical judgment to a fast-moving build.

This Is Probably Not a Fit If You

  • Prefer traditional manual-code-only development.
  • Are skeptical of Codex or agentic coding as a serious development workflow.
  • Only want to write code and do not want to advise, review, or guide.
  • Only provide high-level strategy and are not willing to inspect real architecture, repo structure, tests, implementation plans, or code.
  • Need a full-time role immediately.
  • Are not able to work in person in Sarasota at least during the initial relationship.

How to Apply

Please send a brief note covering:

  • Your experience with Codex, agentic coding, or AI-assisted software development.
  • Examples of platforms, systems, or products you have helped architect, build, review, or harden.
  • Your preferred approach to reviewing AI-generated code.
  • Your experience with backend architecture, infrastructure, DevOps, frontend/backend integration, or cloud deployment.
  • Your Miami Beach / Surfside, FL availability and preferred weekly cadence.
  • Your hourly rate expectations.

Thank you for the consideration and potential interest.
