Engineering Manager
Autodesk
About the role
Position Overview
We’re growing our Cloud Infrastructure Engineering capability within the COO GET Engineering organization. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who blends platform engineering and application delivery leadership. Roughly 60% of the role focuses on owning delivery for one or more business applications (partnering with PM/Design, shepherding roadmaps, and hitting SLOs). The remaining 40% focuses on building and evolving our internal CICD platform, plus observability, and paved roads that boost developer productivity.
You’ll lead a team of DevOps/Platform developers, set technical direction, and partner across Software Engineering, Security, and Product to deliver reliable, scalable outcomes. This is a hands‑on leadership role: you remove blockers, review designs/PRs, coach developers, and own results end‑to‑end. Hybrid work in Squad Model across all GEO Centers.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high‑performing Platform/DevOps team (hiring, coaching, career paths, feedback)
- Own delivery for one or more business applications: plan & execute roadmaps, manage risks/dependencies, run release cadences, ensure on‑time delivery with quality
- Establish SLOs/SLIs, on‑call practices, incident response/RCAs, and continuous improvement rituals (error budgets, postmortems)
- Align with product, design, and partner teams; communicate status, risks, and decisions clearly to stakeholders
- Operate and improve Kubernetes/EKS: cluster lifecycle, multi‑AZ/region strategy, Helm, Karpenter/Autoscaling, networking, service mesh/ingress, secrets, and policy
- Drive GitOps (e.g., Argo CD/Flux) and robust CI/CD (CodeBuild/CodeDeploy/GitHub Actions/Jenkins) with automated testing, progressive delivery, and rollout safety
- Establish opinionated paved roads for app teams (templates, reference repos, guardrails) to reduce cognitive load and time‑to‑value
- Implement end‑to‑end observability (logs, metrics, traces, RUM/synthetics) with tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Catchpoint, CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana
- Partner with Security and Compliance to embed IAM/KMS/Secrets Manager best practices, vulnerability management, SBOMs, and compliance-by-default
- Optimize cost and performance across AWS services, Kubernetes, and data layers; publish transparency dashboards
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years people leadership managing developers; ability to set strategy, delegate effectively, and develop talent
- 7+ years total engineering experience with AWS and DevOps/Platform work; strong systems thinking and bias for automation
- Proven track record owning delivery of a business application (roadmaps, quality, uptime/SLOs, incident mgmt.)
- AWS depth: EC2, EKS, VPC/Networking, RDS/DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, Lambda, CloudWatch, Load Balancing
- Infrastructure as Code at scale: Terraform module design, AWS CDK; GitOps workflows
- Kubernetes/EKS operations: cluster lifecycle, Helm, autoscaling, multi‑AZ/region, security policies
- CI/CD: CodeBuild/CodeDeploy, Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions; artifact/versioning, environments, approvals, progressive delivery
- Programming: Python and/or Java, TypeScript/Node.js (read/review code, contribute PRs, build automations/APIs when needed)
- SRE mindset: SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, incident response/RCAs, capacity & resilience engineering
- Strong written/spoken communication; stakeholder management, ability to translate business goals into engineering outcomes
Preferred Qualifications
- Built/operated an Internal Developer Platform (Backstage/IDP portals), self‑service workflows, and golden paths
- Experience with service meshes (Istio/Linkerd), policy engines (OPA/Gatekeeper), and secrets (AWS Secrets Manager/HashiCorp Vault)
- Experience with Multi Region services and chaos engineering
- Observability at scale (distributed tracing, log pipelines), synthetic monitoring strategy, and customer‑centric reliability
- Data/queueing experience (SQS/SNS/Kinesis, Kafka/MSK) and event‑driven architectures
- Experience with SOX and SOC2, knowledge of internal controls
- Cost governance and FinOps practices
