Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer AI – Senior Expert (m/f/d), you will be responsible for the further development and evolution of software for highly complex products and services, considering holistic business requirements and implications throughout the entire development process (lifecycle). You will build products and platforms with our global engineering team that are built once and scaled everywhere – with a clear focus on customer impact and reusability. AI First is not a buzzword here, but a working principle.

• You will work closely with requesters (e.g., Product Owners) in analyzing and implementing requirements, and provide consulting at management level.
• You will create software solution designs and document them.
• You will define standards for system tests/test automation and take over the installation and configuration of software for complex products and services.
• You will support team members during error analysis up to error correction and provide technical support for other teams for the products and services managed.
• You will collaborate closely with other teams in an international environment and lead projects of strategic relevance.

Qualifications

You are characterized by detailed company-specific knowledge or exceptional specialized knowledge and skills:

• Many years of practical experience in AI/ML Engineering or MLOps/Platform Engineering – with demonstrably productive deliveries.
• Outstanding practical engineering skills in Python, JVM/Node with AI libs, Containers/K8s, CI/CD, Testing, Observability, among others.
• Extensive AI tooling skills in LLMs for Prompting, RAG, Finetuning, Embedding/Vector Databases, Evaluation, Guardrails.
• Practical experience in clouds like AWS/Azure/GCP in e.g., Bedrock/SageMaker, Azure AI Studio, Vertex AI, including Security/Networking Basics.
• Experience with Data Fundamentals such as data models, feature pipelines, governance (PII, Model Cards), and cost awareness in application.
• Extensive experience with Agentic AI and frameworks like Ray, LangChain/LlamaIndex, or Hugging Face; profound knowledge in the productive operation of models (on-premises and in cloud environments) – including deployment, scaling, monitoring, and security.
• Potentially certifications (Azure AI Engineer, AWS AI Practitioner/ML, Google GenAI/Gemini).
• Very good German & English skills (DE/EN min. C1).

This position is also possible on a part-time basis.
