Job Description

Seeking a Software Engineering Staff member to support the full lifecycle of avionics subsystems for safety-critical embedded mission software. This role contributes to software architecture, development, integration, and certification for mission and communication systems deployed on advanced defense platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software development efforts for a major rotorcraft modernization program (FLRAA).
  • Design, develop, test, and debug embedded C/C++ applications for avionics systems.
  • Integrate algorithms and mission features into real-time software environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on software/hardware interfaces.
  • Support documentation, error correction, and performance validation.
  • Guide certification activities and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Contribute to team planning, coordination, and delivery across technical performance, schedule, and cost.

Essential Skills

  • Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Agile development practices.
  • Proficiency in Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • C++, Embedded software, Embedded C, Software development, Software engineering.
  • Experience with Linux and Python.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible for Secret clearance and special access facility.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related field with 9+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • Experience with cockpit, integrated avionics, mission system architectures, and sensor subsystems.
  • Familiarity with FACE technical standards and software product line development.
  • Experience developing software requirements and collaborating across engineering disciplines.
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), preferably using CAMEO.
  • Proficiency in command-line scripting, Git version control, Docker containers, and Wireshark.
  • Strong customer relationship and communication skills.
  • Ability to present technical strategies and challenges to stakeholders.
  • Experience with RTOS platforms such as VxWorks.
  • Hands‑on experience with integration and testing of avionics systems.
  • Active Secret clearance preferred.

Work Environment

Located in Owego, NY, the campus is large with most of the site having secured areas. Approximately 2300 people are located in Syracuse. The Owego facility primarily handles Rotary Winged Aircraft (Helicopter) work. The work schedule follows a 9/80 pattern with relatively flexible work hours. The opportunity allows contractors to work on exciting programs that include upgrading legacy technologies with some of the newest technologies and new research and development programs.

This is a Contract position based out of Owego, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $80.00/hr.
