Software Engineer (m/w/d) – Trading Systems Energy

Rabot Energy

Berlin · flexible Full-time 1mo ago

About the role

Why now?

The energy market is undergoing the biggest upheaval in 50 years. We are no longer just managing electricity, we are making it intelligent. RABOT is growing triple-digit. We have the product, we have the market fit – now we need you to put the engine in high gear. We are not looking for administrators, we are looking for architects of our growth.

Your Mission

Every kilowatt-hour we deliver to our customers, we procure on the energy markets. Behind this is a trading infrastructure that runs around the clock, is business-critical, and must scale with our growth. You will be part of the team that operates and further develops this infrastructure. Your focus will be on the reliability and scalability of our trading services: you will take over maintenance, monitoring, and further development. You will work closely with our portfolio management and contribute to the development of intraday trading algorithms. Code reviews are part of your daily routine – in both directions. This role is not for someone who likes to experiment in the production system. Trading infrastructure does not tolerate spontaneous experiments. We are looking for someone who plans changes with discipline, rolls them out cleanly, and in case of doubt, looks twice.

Your Results

We won't throw you in at the deep end, but we expect you to learn to swim. After 12 months, your success will look like this:

After 6 weeks (Onboarding)

  • You have deeply familiarized yourself with the existing codebase and our deployment processes.
  • You understand the data flows and the connection to our trading partners.
  • You know where you can connect – both professionally and within the team.

Month 3 (Ramp-up)

  • You will independently take on initial maintenance and configuration tasks.
  • Initial monitoring components will be set up.
  • You will have fully grasped the architecture, data flows, and dependencies on external trading partners.

Month 6 (Performance)

  • Complete monitoring dashboards for all business-critical trading processes are in operation (availability, latencies, error rates).
  • Initial independent development work on existing services is in production.
  • Code reviews are conducted in both directions – professional exchange within the team is established.

Month 12 (Scale)

  • You will develop and test intraday trading algorithms together with portfolio management.
  • You will extend interfaces to internal systems and external trading partners.
  • You will be an equal sparring partner in the team. Development tasks will be delegated to you, critical reviews will go through your desk.

Qualification

Technical Requirements (Must-haves)

This role has clear technical requirements. Without these skills, you won't be able to get started in the first few weeks – we ask you to honestly check against the list before applying.

  • Very good C#/.NET knowledge from productive development – not from tutorials or hobby projects
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Linux and Windows server administration in a production context
  • CI/CD and deployment experience – you know the path from commit to live system
  • Genuine interest in energy or financial markets. You don't have to be a trader, but you must want to understand what the code is running for

Nice to have

  • Experience in energy trading (EPEX, EEX, Intraday) or with stock exchange and trading systems
  • Monitoring & Observability
  • Cloud experience
  • Experience with database migrations
  • Experience with trading algorithms or quantitative development
  • PKI / Certificate Management
  • Python for data analysis or algo prototyping

Who we are looking for

  • You take responsibility without staging it. If something is stuck, you don't wait for escalation. You go in, check, fix it – and document it.
  • Discipline before speed. You plan changes cleanly, test, and roll them out in a controlled manner. Spontaneous hotfixes on production are your last resort, not your first.
  • You enjoy working in close collaboration. Code reviews are not a format for you, but a tool. You accept feedback, give it back, and learn from the exchange within the team.
  • You explain what you do. You can document and communicate even complex technical decisions in a way that is understandable to others – today and in two years.
  • You want to understand energy. Trading systems are not an end in themselves – they supply electricity to our customers. You want to understand what drives the algorithms, not just that they are running.

What we offer you

  • Substantial responsibility: A business-critical infrastructure, a clear mandate, and a team in which you can grow professionally.
  • Setting: Berlin, at least 3 days a week in the office.
  • Culture: Transparency over politics. Straight talk, even when it's uncomfortable. Learning from mistakes, no blame.

Your Extras

  • Employee discount for Rabot Energy electricity tariff
  • Urban Sports Club Partnering + Deutschlandticket
