Position Overview
Title: Software Engineering Manager – Vertical Lift
Location: Mesa, AZ
Team: Vertical Lift (AH‑64 Apache, V‑22 Osprey, and other vertical lift and aerospace platforms)
The Boeing Company is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead and support a diverse team of software development engineers. This role manages full‑lifecycle software development for sophisticated military and commercial platforms, including Apache Weapons and Sights and the V‑22 Flight Controls team. Responsibilities include integrating team activities with Integrated Product Teams (IPT), managing projects, staffing, personnel development, skills management, and team training. The product lifecycle spans from proposal development through aircraft fielding and resolution of field issues.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining tools and processes, supporting ongoing process improvements, coordinating software customer interface, overseeing technical issues/solutions, build plans, project status briefings, proposal inputs, and administration issues. The position requires project, people, and technical leadership; customer engagement; participation in design reviews; employee development and reviews; and cost account management of team budgets and schedules. Management of resources and priorities across multiple software development and IR&D projects is also required.
Responsibilities
- Lead software engineers through the full lifecycle of software development, from modeling and simulation to testing and analysis.
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and manage teams of software developers, fostering career growth and building a strong team culture based on inclusion, innovation, and respect.

- Collaborate with customers and other leaders to clearly define expectations and deliver exceptional solutions.

- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to inform and implement the company's technology strategy, with a special focus on execution and timely delivery.
- Manage employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Software Engineering.
- Develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures, and set operational goals.
- Acquire resources for projects and processes, provide technical management of suppliers, and lead process improvements.
- Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.
- Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
- Lead and support proposals, Requests for Information/Proposal, including both technical and non‑technical writing and estimating.
- Manage projects including baselining, execution, and control account management.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance
- 5+ years’ experience in Software Engineering
- 3+ years’ experience in a leadership or management role
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
- Advanced degree in engineering, AI, data science, or related field
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance
- Experience in software product life cycles specific to aviation and aerospace systems, from proposal through fielding
- Familiarity with DO‑178 software certification methodology
- Previous experience with US DOD software development is a plus
- Broad technical experience in programming languages, development environments, operating systems, validation, and verification, and in emerging technology and engineering standards
- Experience in project execution and earned value management techniques

Pay & Benefits
- Summary pay range for Manager Level K: $160,650 – $217,350
- Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
- Total Rewards package includes competitive base pay, variable compensation, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid/unpaid time off.
- Specific programs and options may vary based on eligibility factors such as geographic location, date of hire, and collective bargaining agreements.

Export Control Requirements
- Position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements.
- “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required (U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).

Security Clearance
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
- Interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance post‑start is required.
