The Role
We’re hiring a Field Support Engineer to be embedded full-time at the Abuja office of one of our flagship retail partners.
This is not a traditional “support” role.
You’ll be:
- The technical operator on the ground
- The bridge between real-world retail operations and our engineering team
- The first to see problems — and the first to turn them into product improvements
You’ll own the client experience end-to-end from stability and support to insights and product feedback.
While you’re physically onsite, you’re fully embedded in Oyster’s engineering team joining standups, contributing to technical discussions, and collaborating closely with backend, frontend, and ML engineers.
You are not “support.” You are Oyster’s presence inside the client’s business.
What You’ll Do
- Act as the first line of technical ownership for everything running at the client site — storefront, admin, integrations, and AI features
- Diagnose and resolve issues in real time — debugging across backend, frontend, APIs, and infrastructure
- Triage and escalate complex issues with clear reproduction steps, logs, and business context
- Own the transition from legacy systems to Oyster’s platform — training staff, smoothing workflows, and eliminating friction
- Work closely with product and engineering to shape features based on real usage, not assumptions
- Observe daily operations (checkout, inventory, CRM, marketing, support) and identify high-impact improvements
- Translate business problems into clear, actionable engineering tasks
- Monitor system health — logs, metrics, anomalies — and proactively flag risks
- Ship small fixes and improvements directly where appropriate
- Be the trusted technical voice for client stakeholders
Must-Haves
- 1–3 years of experience shipping and supporting production systems
- Strong PHP skills and experience with Laravel
- Willingness to learn and work with Magento (modules, GraphQL, admin customization)
- Comfortable debugging React applications (network tab, state, API calls)
- Solid understanding of APIs (REST & GraphQL) — able to trace and debug requests end-to-end
- Strong SQL/Postgres skills — able to run investigative queries on live data
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.)
- Strong communication skills — able to switch between technical and non-technical conversations seamlessly
- Based in Abuja and able to work onsite daily
Bonus
- Hands-on Magento experience
- Experience with headless commerce architectures
- Exposure to Linux systems and log analysis
- Experience in e-commerce or skincare/beauty
- Prior customer-facing or technical account management experience
