About the role

About

Our client is a France-based space company developing advanced space transportation systems with a strong focus on autonomous vehicles and highly integrated onboard avionics. The company operates in a demanding space environment where onboard computing plays a central role in vehicle control, mission execution, and system safety, in compliance with ECSS standards.

Key points of the position

Reporting to the system engineering department, you will be responsible for the architecture and technical leadership of the On Board Calculator (OBC), a central and mission-critical subsystem of the spacecraft.

You will act as the system architect in charge of defining, validating, and maintaining the OBC architecture, ensuring compliance with ECSS standards and robustness against the space environment, including radiation effects.

Missions

As a Space System Architect – On Board Calculator, your missions will include:

  • Defining the overall system architecture of the On Board Calculator in coordination with avionics, software, and hardware teams
  • Leading system-level trade-offs (performance, reliability, radiation tolerance, power, mass)
  • Specifying system requirements and interfaces in compliance with ECSS standards
  • Ensuring radiation robustness (SEE, TID) at system level in collaboration with hardware experts
  • Overseeing the full development lifecycle of the OBC from design to qualification and in-orbit support
  • Acting as the technical reference for the OBC subsystem towards internal teams, suppliers, and customers
  • Supporting verification and validation activities (reviews, test campaigns, qualification)
  • Contributing to technical documentation and design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR)

Necessary skills

  • Engineering degree in systems engineering, aerospace, electronics, or a related field
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in space systems engineering, with strong exposure to onboard avionics or computing systems
  • Proven experience working with ECSS standards
  • Solid knowledge of space radiation effects and mitigation strategies at system level
  • Experience holding responsibility for a mission-critical onboard subsystem, ideally an On Board Computer / On Board Calculator
  • Comfortable working in highly regulated, safety-critical environments
  • Ability to interface efficiently with hardware, software, and project management teams
  • Fluent English required; additional European languages are a plus
