About the Role
The Bid System Engineering Specialist operates as the technical authority within the bid lifecycle, ensuring that the proposed system architectures align with client specifications, regulatory constraints and internal product line capabilities. This role acts as the principal interface between solution design, bid management, and engineering governance, ensuring end-to-end alignment from technical proposal to project handover.
The Specialist is responsible for defining, documenting, and validating end-to-end system architectures, including software/hardware integration layers, while supporting the cross-functional bid team with cost modeling, compliance verification, and risk mitigation strategies. The position also contributes to engineering excellence post-award by supporting requirement traceability, integration planning, and validation methodologies throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Bids (75%)
- Conduct comprehensive technical and contractual requirement analysis to ensure bid scope alignment with client needs and applicable industry standards.
- Design and validate proposed system architectures during project proposals.
- Write technical proposal describing the systems (Hardware and Software).
- Draft contractual documentation such as quality assurance plans, compliance matrices, and others.
- Validate compliance with system and component requirements.
- Quantify engineering work packages and contribute to cost modeling for multi-disciplinary efforts (software, hardware, system, and mechanical streams).
- Participate in High level bid planification.
- Collaborate closely with Bid Managers to synchronize engineering deliverables with commercial milestones.
- Coordinate and lead technical demonstrations (on-premises or remote) showcasing product capabilities aligned with client expectations.
- Ensure technical knowledge transfer and bid continuity to execution teams post-award, including support during the project initiation phase.
Projects (25%)
- Analyze and translate contractual requirements into traceable system specifications meeting customer needs.
- Act as the technical point of contact for internal and external stakeholders throughout system development and delivery.
- Design and validate proposed system architectures during project proposals.
- Create a functional description of the systems and allocate requirements to different teams (SW/HW/Mechanical/Validation).
- Develop and maintain technical documentation across the lifecycle of the project (test procedures, final assembly instructions, specifications, integration plans, validation procedures, reliability analyses, etc.).
- Validate compliance with system and component requirements.
- Define and ensure continuous improvement in system engineering plans and procedures.
- Contribute to project design reviews (PDR/CDR), First Article Inspections (FAI), and customer acceptance testing (CAT).
- Provide on-site engineering support during system commissioning, integration, and troubleshooting phases.
Requirements
- University degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Software Engineering, combined with minimum 5 years of experience.
- DEC in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, combined with 8 to 10 years of experience.
- Available to travel between Canada and USA.
Technical Knowledge
- IP-based network topologies and IT infrastructure design.
- Knowledge of digital video systems.
- Knowledge of telecommunications, IEEE/EIA standards, and data/voice transmission.
- Familiarity with standards and regulations such as EN, IEC, FCC, particularly EN 50155, EN 45545, IEC 62443.
- Embedded and industrial systems integration.
- Cybersecurity.
