Throughout their careers, special agents engage in both investigative and protective roles and may be assigned to various duty stations domestically and internationally. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing protection for a range of dignitaries and officials.
- Conducting criminal investigations related to financial crimes against the United States.
- Planning and executing security measures for National Special Security Events.

Requirements
- You must be a U.S. citizen.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be proficient in carrying and using a firearm, with mandatory maintenance of firearm skills.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the time of application and under 37 years old at the time of receiving a conditional offer of employment, unless you have qualifying prior federal law enforcement service.
- Must obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance throughout your career.
- Visual acuity requirements: uncorrected vision no worse than 20/100 binocular, corrected vision of 20/20 or better in each eye.
- Hearing loss should not exceed 25 decibels in either ear across specified frequency ranges.
- Submit to a drug test prior to appointment and undergo random drug testing while in the position.
- Complete 13 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, followed by 18 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
- Sign a mobility agreement indicating your willingness to accept assignments anywhere in the United States and internationally.
- Certify your registration with the Selective Service System if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, or declare your exemption.
