About the role
Position Summary
GDM-AE, Inc. is staffing for federal healthcare construction and design support work at active healthcare facilities in Palo Alto, CA.
The Specification Writer interprets architectural, engineering, and interior design plans and prepares standards, workmanship criteria, material/equipment lists, and specifications used by contractors on building construction activities. This role acts as the technical reviewer of specifications across the A/E team.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret architectural, engineering, and interior design plans and prepare standards, workmanship criteria, material and equipment lists, and specifications.
- Coordinate with A/E staff on facility design, engineering, and construction requirements.
- Use specification software and apply technical knowledge in interfacing with engineering and construction professionals.
- Perform technical review of specifications for completeness, code compliance, and constructability.
- Maintain master specification libraries and federal-specific reference standards.
- Support multi-discipline coordination on healthcare facility renovation and new construction projects.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree from an accredited University, OR graduate of an accredited Trade School or formal apprenticeship program. Educational requirements may be substituted by 8 years of directly related experience.
- 5 years of experience in a construction and/or engineering work environment interfacing with A/E staff responsible for facility design, engineering, and construction requirements.
- Knowledge of specification software (Masterspec, SpecsIntact, BSD SpecLink, or similar).
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Healthcare, federal, or hospital project experience preferred.
- CCS (Certified Construction Specifier) credential preferred.
Federal Contract Requirements
- Some local travel within the Palo Alto service area is part of normal duties.
- Tier 1 Low Risk / Non-Sensitive background investigation (NACI / SF-85) required prior to assignment.
- Must abide by all client facility rules, security procedures, and safety regulations.
- Employees represent themselves as contracted personnel, not federal employees, and do not perform inherently governmental functions.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $105,000-$135,000
- Monthly certification pay for additional licensing (PMP, LEED AP, BCxA, etc.)
