Role Summary:
The Sr. Accountant Practice Accounting, reports to the Manager, Practice Accounting and supports the month-end close and financial reporting process within a specific functional pod on the operational accounting team. This role is responsible for prepping and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses while ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP. The Senior serves as a subject matter expert within their area and supports cross-functional collaboration with other pods to ensure a cohesive close process.
Responsibilities:
- Support month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations within the assigned functional areas (e.g., revenue, assets, opex, liabilities, etc.)
- Review staff accountants’ work for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Ensure accounting records and supporting documentation comply with US GAAP and internal controls.
- Serve as a mentor and resource to staff accountants by providing training, feedback, and guidance.
- Partner with Practice Accounting Operation to analyze results and support variance explanations.
- Support integration of new physicians, tuck-ins, and service lines, including establishing opening balance sheets, converting practices from cash to accrual basis, and ensuring alignment with OneOncology accounting policies.
- Support process improvements and automation initiatives to improve efficiency.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned to help drive our mission of improving the lives of everyone living with cancer.
Required or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required (Master’s degree preferred).
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in healthcare.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and accounting best practices.
- Strong proficiency in Excel; ERP system experience (Workday preferred).
- Active CPA license strongly preferred.
- Prior experience mentoring or reviewing work of junior staff a plus.
Essential Competencies:
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (revenue recognition, lease accounting, liability recognition, etc.) and ability to perform technical research.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive problem solver with the ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
- Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Natural curiosity and desire to learn, with a focus on continuous improvement
