We are seeking a Senior Conveyance Engineer – Design Lead to join our East Central Water team, based in Pittsburgh, PA, supporting a variety of municipal water and wastewater projects regionally. This role is designed for a highly experienced conveyance engineer who wants to remain focused on hands‑on design, technical execution, and team collaboration, without formal project management responsibility.
In this role, you will play a key part on project teams by leading complex design tasks, guiding technical approach, and supporting successful project delivery across the region.
Role Overview
As a Senior Conveyance Engineer – Design Lead, you will
- Serve as a senior design contributor on assigned projects, ultimately you will become the technical lead
- Execute and oversee complex conveyance design elements within larger multidisciplinary projects
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, discipline leads, and regional teams
- Support a variety of municipal water and wastewater projects across the East Central geography
- Contribute to team development through informal mentoring and technical collaboration
- Lead and perform detailed water and wastewater conveyance design, including
- Gravity and pressure pipelines
- Watermains and sewers (small and large diameter)
- Pump station hydraulics and layouts
- Alignment development and alternatives analysis
- Complete and review engineering calculations, hydraulic models, and design analyses
- Prepare and review technical memoranda and design reports, as well as plans, profiles, and construction specifications
- Support QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements
- Work in partnership with Project Managers by leading defined technical scopes
- Participate in technical coordination with internal disciplines and external stakeholders
- Provide engineering support during permitting, bidding, and construction as needed
- Assist with responding to technical questions from clients and contractors
- Collaborate closely with junior and mid-level engineers on design tasks
- Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance and design review support
- Share practical experience and lessons learned to strengthen overall team performance
- Provide technical input to proposals and pursuits
- Participate in client meetings related to design development and technical coordination
- Support long‑term client relationships through consistent technical performance
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license with ability to gain reciprocity in Pennsylvania
- 15+ years of experience in water and wastewater conveyance engineering
- Strong experience with Pipeline design, layout Hydraulic analysis and modeling
- Preparation and review of plans, profiles, and specifications
- Proven ability to work effectively within multi‑disciplinary project teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation
Ideally, You'll also have
- Master’s Degree in Civil, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience serving as a design lead or senior technical contributor on conveyance projects
- Experience or familiarity with Bluebeam, ProjectWise and GIS platforms (ArcGIS)
- Active in professional associations

Salary
The base salary range for this position is $95,000.00 to $125,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
