About the role
About
The Senior Director of Engineering will lead the design, deployment, and optimization of our fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network infrastructure. This role is responsible for building and scaling a high-performing engineering organization that delivers reliable, high-capacity broadband services to residential and business customers.
You’ll oversee end-to-end network engineering—from architecture and planning through deployment standards and lifecycle management—while partnering cross-functionally with construction, operations, product, and finance teams to support rapid network expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the long-term engineering roadmap for FTTH network expansion, ensuring the network remains competitive against evolving broadband standards.
- Align all engineering initiatives with the company’s business growth targets, specific market expansion plans, and overarching customer experience goals.
- Demonstrated ability to represent the engineering organization at the board or executive level, effectively communicating technical risks and opportunities to non-technical leaders
Network Architecture & Design
- Oversee design standards for FTTH networks including access, aggregation, and core layers.
- Ensure scalable, cost-efficient, and resilient network architectures.
- Lead capacity planning and traffic engineering initiatives.
Deployment & Expansion
- Partner with construction and program management teams to support deployment.
- Establish engineering standards, permitting support, and design guidelines for fiber builds.
- Optimize deployment timelines and cost per passing.
Operational Excellence
- Collaborate with Network Operations to ensure high availability, performance, and rapid incident resolution.
- Develop KPIs for network reliability, latency, utilization, and customer impact.
- Drive continuous improvement in network performance and engineering processes.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team (network, transport, access, IP, and planning engineers).
- Design and evolve the engineering department’s organizational structure to remain agile during rapid market expansion and shifting technology cycles
- Establish a strong engineering culture focused on accountability, innovation, and execution.
- Manage staffing plans, succession planning, and performance management.
- Implement rigorous peer-review and validation processes for all network designs to ensure every build meets long-term scalability and cost-per-passing targets
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with key vendors (OLT/ONT providers, fiber suppliers, software platforms).
- Establish and track Vendor SLAs and KPIs, holding engineering contractors accountable for delivery timelines.
- Support vendor selection, contract negotiations, and technical evaluations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Product, Sales, Regulatory, and Finance.
- Manage the technical components of Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs) for external engineering firms and consultants
Financial & Program Accountability
- Develop and manage engineering budgets (CapEx and OpEx).
- Support business case development for network investments.
- Track and optimize cost efficiency metrics across builds and upgrades.
Qualifications
Required
- 12–15+ years of experience in telecommunications or broadband networking.
- 5–8+ years in a senior leadership role managing engineering teams.
- Deep expertise in FTTH architectures and technologies (GPON, XGS-PON, fiber design).
- Strong understanding of IP networking, transport (DWDM), and access networks.
- Proven experience scaling network infrastructure in a high-growth environment.
Preferred
- Experience in a fiber overbuilder, ISP, or regional/national telecom provider.
- Familiarity with GIS systems, network planning tools, and OSS/BSS integrations.
- Experience with network automation, SDN/NFV, and cloud-based network management.
