The successful candidate will work as part of the short‑range mining and tailings planning team at Fort Hills while ensuring strong collaboration with the Geotechnical, Operations and Projects teams.

Minimum Requirements
- 7‑10 years mine and tailings planning work experience in the oil sands industry
- Experience with leading mining and tailings regulatory compliance reporting
- Undergraduate degree in Mine, Geological or Civil Engineering
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant industry codes and regulatory requirements (Directive 082, Directive 085, etc.)
- Familiar with developing civil scope including drainage and road designs

Additional Accountabilities
- Apply advanced engineering knowledge to complex assignments and adapt established guidelines when needed while being able to communicate complex technical projects to non‑technical stakeholders
- Demonstrate development of original ideas, innovative solutions, and improved ways of working
- Able to make rational decisions and recommend change in process to achieve objectives by identifying risk, providing corrective action recommendation, and driving process improvements
- Promote learning from past experiences and incorporate management‑of‑change principles
- Influence stakeholders on technical decisions, build alignment across groups and achieve a high level of buy‑in for recommendations from all involved parties
- Contribute to strategies that enhance engineering quality of deliverables and assets
- Plan for substations/voltage, support special projects and provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers and technical staff as required
- Make balanced, well‑reasoned decisions and set long‑term objectives as a registered engineer ensuring technical accuracy
Location and other Key Details
You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. This is an office‑based role with occasional travel to the Fort Hills site. Hours of work are a regular 40‑hour work week, Monday to Friday. Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will be based on years of experience and scope of work.
